AARP Tax-Aide Program, the nation’s largest free, volunteer tax assistance and preparation service, is looking for volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to help Tehama County residents file their tax return. Harley Bennett, district coordinator for Tehama County, Barbara Vandygriff, local coordinator of Corn- ing, Everett McDonough, local coordinator of Red Bluff, and Kelley Orr, instructor in Red Bluff, are look- ing for individuals to provide free tax service to more than 900 individuals from Feb. 1 to April 15, 2011. Volunteers should be comfortable using a computer and be able to commit to 40 hours of volunteer time during the 10 weeks of Tax Season. Seasoned coun- selors and qualified instructors will offer four days of comprehensive training Jan. 24-27, 2011. This is a great way to learn new skills and be involved in the community. The TaxAide Program is a free tax service offered to senior citizens and all individuals by the Internal Revenue Service and the American Association of Retired Persons. Setting it straight Marci Grell, 31, of Cottonwood, mentioned in Thursday’s 1A story about collisions on Highway 99E, was taken to Enloe Medical Center in Chico with major injuries Tuesday evening following a collision with a bus as she tried to help victims from an earlier collision. Grell was treated and released from Enloe’s care as reported, but she was then flown to San Francisco with major injuries where she was in critical condition as of Thursday evening, according to family members. There was a performance for Antelope students in the morning and another for parents in the afternoon. Freedom is a musical celebration of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The students spoke of the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and much more. They honored veterans and those in the armed services.
