Metteer students learn about trash, recylcing The Metteer Elementary School SERRF Program started a new You Matter unit on de-trashing our schools and recycling. Embedded with it is the Character Counts Pillar citizenship. Kindergarten and 1st grade started off learning what recycling means and made recycle posters to put up around the school. The 2nd and 3rd grade group put questions together to ask the custodian about what happens to the school trash and where it goes. The 3rd and 4th grade group talked about how trash affects the environment and can hurt animals. Lastly the 4th and 5th grade group picked up trash around the school and talked about the different kinds of trash and how it affects the school. The students are also learning vocabulary words that are college or career related. They talk about the word, look it up in the dictionary and use it in a sentence. The age group will determine how many new and educational words the students they will learn. At Metteer SERRF, "We are college bound."
