Mark Sneed '87 Alumnus Uses DU Experience in Articles for the Kansas City Star Alumni Update Chapter Eternal David H. Hax '43 entered Chapter Eternal December 2009. He was a resident of Shawnee Mission, Kan. He served in the United States Navy for two years. M att Keenan '81 found a chance to be himself with the brothers of the Kansas Chapter. Since graduating from KU and leaving the DU house, Matt still cherishes his time living in the fraternity with his brothers and remembering these experiences. When asked what impact DU had him, he replied that "DU was my identity. My best friends stayed in that house with me. They always had my back, and I always had theirs. That is still true today." Matt has become an attorney and freelance writer—writing humor columns for the Kansas City Star. He draws inspiration from his time as a Kansas Chapter member in his articles. Matt mentioned the DU house in his article "In the world of fashion, the son also rises." He humorously used the term "brotherize" to refer to all of the times that his DU brothers would borrow each other's clothes but conveniently forget to return them until graduation weekend up to three years later. He has been writing these articles roughly every other week for years; some of which can be found on his website, matthewkeenan.com. On June 9, 2012, Matt was awarded third place in the Heart of America Journalism Awards. Scott Steele '04 Rev. Robert N. Alpers '55 James E. Cram '71 Marshall L. Crowther '59 Stewart R. Wesley, M.D. '75 A. Eugene Voigt '48 entered Chapter Eternal August 1, 2012. He was a resident of Brandon, Fla. Chauncey L. Veatch '49 entered Chapter Eternal February 28, 2011, in Tracy, Calif., at the age of 85. "I know he was proud of being a DU at KU. In the later years I would read the newsletter to him," said his daughter, Deborah Veatch Latasa. In addition to writing for the Kansas City Star, he has published two books, Call Me Dad, Not Dude and Call Me Dad, Not Dude. The Sequel, that are available at bookstores and Amazon. Matt takes pride in his parenting skills and appeared on KCTV 5 in January to discuss new age parenting. One thing Matt would pass on to undergraduates is to never take for granted the experiences, friendships, and lessons learned, as they can impact your future in ways you may never expect. John F. Elliott '50 entered Chapter Eternal June 24, 2013. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and after his tour of duty he enrolled at the University of Kansas. He continued his education at the Kansas City Conservatory of Music and graduated in 1950 with a degree in composition. He created and taught his own method of jazz and other music theory. Ronald E. Holmes '55 entered Chapter Eternal October 22, 2012. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a first lieutenant for several years and worked for most of his career as an educator. Painting, fishing, motorcycling, bicycling, and field training hunting dogs were a few of his passions in life. (Continued on page 4)
