This concert, featuring the University Chorus, Acappella Choir, and Chamber Singers, will explore the poetry of the world around us. Directed by Dr. David Scholz, director of Choral and Vocal Music at CSU, Chico, "From Where the Sun Now Stands" will feature songs written to poetry about nature. Taking center stage will be the Acappella Choir's presentation of "From Where the Sun Now Stands," a cycle of songs on American Indian poetry composed by Charles Forsberg, professor of theory and composition at St. Olaf College. "Dr. Forsberg is excited that the choir is bringing his music to life once again, and he is hopeful that his music may be republished in the near future," said Scholz. "The set will also be performed by several all-state honor choirs on the east coast this coming spring." According to Forsberg, the inspiration for the cycle began with a Nebraska road trip in July of 1975 where he was struck by the beauty of Native American inscriptions on the steps leading up to the Nebraska state capitol. "Many of the words in the prologue are seen as stone inscriptions along the steps leading up to the building on the north side," said Forsberg.
