The Lady Cardinals also gave out team awards with Lopez receiving the team’s Defensive MVP award and Sam Bobadilla taking the Offensive MVP honors. Nelson and Bethany Vader received the yearly captain awards. Lopez The Fighting Cardinal Award went to Angelica Ramos, Most Improved Cardinal was given to Yaseen Lomeli and Shelby Long earned the Coaches Award. SOCCER Red Bluff Spartans DN Staff Report Red Bluff’s Enrique Ascencio received an honorable mention as part of the 2010 Eastern Athletic League Boys Soccer All-League team. The senior was an integral part of Red Bluff’s strike force this season with his ability to jump into plays and take free kicks. Red Bluff finished the season in sixth place in the EAL with a 4-8-2 record. The Wellington Cup was won by Shasta, which defeated Enter- prise 1-0 in the championship In the semifinals Shasta knocked off a Chico team, that had went through EAL play undefeated and Enterprise defeated Pleasant Valley. Three Wolves made the All- EAL team — junior centerback Christian Rincon and senior mid- fielders Davis Crane and Omar Carlos. Chico placed three seniors on the All-EAL team as forward Kenny Rosencrance joined defenders Jason Winerich and Jimmy Dawson. Also making the team were Enterprise senior striker Nathan Riveros, Enterprise junior defender Mitchell Boyle, Foothill senior striker Matt Reis- er, Pleasant Valley senior for- ward Isaac Coppock, Pleasant Valley junior goalie Ryan Heu- ton and University Prep senior midfielder Ryan O’Toole. The game will take place in Oroville at noon. Follow- ing the game the Corning Lions Jr. Midget team will be play- ing for their championship at 2 p.m. Youth Basketball Signups Cornerstone Youth Basketball League signups will be continue on Tuesday, Nov. 16 and Thursday, Nov. 18 in the lobby of the large gym at Red Bluff Union High School from 5:30 to 7 p.m. California Grapettes The California Grapettes are seeking skilled players to join their 16-and-under travel team for the 2011 summer sea- son. The Grapettes are one of California’s premier fastpitch programs and participate in high-quality tournaments and is well-known in the college recruiting community. Players selected from Northern California will have the opportunity to practice in the Red Bluff area. Transportation is available to tryouts and tournaments. Tryouts are set for Dec. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon at Arnaiz Park Field No. 3 in Stockton and Dec. 11 and 18 from 9 a.m. to noon at Pleas- ant Grove High School in Elk Grove.
