These students were able to gain some insight into why they study their martial arts of Jujutsu and Judo and understand, too, that their reason to train is as in the movie - that it's not about fighting and ego but to be able to be strong enough that they won't have to fight - but if they are pushed into a conflict by being bullied how to resolve it without permanent injury to the aggressor. This attitude requires a student to train a lot and with focus on good grades in school. They've been train- ing for several months at Ginger's Fit- ness Palace across from the former Holiday Market at Cedar and Madison Streets. Ginger features Zumba sever- al times each week. She has donated her facility to PAL for several months and the students appreciate her gen- erosity. Care packages The Military Family Support Group is collecting items to mail to deployed military personnel for Christmas. Care package items will be collected in front of Wal-Mart from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 28. It’s not too late to add a soldier's name to the mailing list or donate items. Students arrived in the morning to find nine large, orange pumpkins suitable for carving. For the ‘Draw me, Win me, Take me home’ contest students submitted a detailed pencil sketch of the face that they would carve if they won a pumpkin. The winners were announced during the pizza lunch and video time featuring the Peanuts Classic, ‘It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” The first place winners were: Gibran Steen-McNealy, Billy King and Isiah Gash. Not pictured was winner Summer Stewart. Runner- ups were Elizabeth Leo-Noria and Kiersten Goni. The ‘Most Original Award’ went to Jonah Bennett for a pumpkin he had already carved.
