4 The Beacon Housing Campaign Reconnects Alumni Spotlight on Honorary Campaign Co-Chairmen Joe Harroz '86 and Glen D. Johnson '73 J oe Harroz '86 and Glen Johnson '73 agree that their undergraduate experiences at Delta Kappa Chapter couldn't have meant more to them. They are both honorary chairmen for the capital campaign because they share the same hopes for the chapter. Even though they weren't undergraduates at the same time, they both chose to join the fraternity for the same reason: they felt at home with the men at ATW. "There seemed to be an immediate, bonded connection between the men already in the chapter," says Glen. "I felt a good and close connection between all of the brothers." Both men agree that their time in the chapter was incredibly influential on their lives. "When you look across the many generations of ATW alumni there is a unifying theme: special friendships, experiences, and leadership opportunities that serve the members for a lifetime," says Joe. "I am honored to be an ATW and proud of the accomplished alumni the chapter has produced. It is a privilege to be part of a fundraising effort that will provide a house worthy of the chapter." Joe was even more so inclined to become a campaign chairman when he heard that Glen was becoming co-chairman. "Glen was a terrific choice. Even before we became friends and colleagues, I knew him by reputation. He preceded me in the house by a few years, but was legend because he had won the Thomas Arkle Clark Award, which is the highest, national award for an undergraduate from ATW," says Joe. "He is a great friend and a remarkable professional, and I've always respected him." Glen and Joe encourage brothers to give to the campaign and remind others to look back and reflect upon their own undergraduate experiences living in the chapter house. "The Delta Kappa undergraduate experience lasts for four years, but for me it's meant a lifelong connection. I think everyone who was touched by ATW during their time in college would say that those memories are among their best and happiest. ATWs today should have the same great experience that we had. The Delta Kappa Chapter at OU has been on campus since 1921. We hope that everyone will be inclined to help financially on the construction of the new chapter house as way of saying thanks for the great memories as an undergraduate and member of ATW," says Glen. They believe that the campaign will strengthen the chapter by continuing to provide brothers with a quality home where all can live together. "The house is the center of activity. The experience of living together is important to forging a brotherhood. Structures matter; living in a first- class structure can inspire them in their careers," says Joe. Glen also wants to give credit to the other leaders of the campaign to build the new chapter house. "We have many brothers who have done a great deal of work on this, and I want to make sure that all of them get the appropriate credit. Joe and I were humbled to be honorary chairmen, but we want to recognize all of our brothers who have been the workhorses that have made this effort come together so well," says Glen. "Fundraising efforts are a great way to reconnect, and a great chance to get together. Working with Joe has always been great. He is a good friend and already has a very distinguished career. His leadership and dedication are outstanding." "As we move into the final steps of the construction phase for the new house, it has been very heartwarming to see support outpouring from ATWs literally spanning seven decades" says Glen. "When I look at the list of donors, I realize that this is a testament to those who believe in ATW and to their commitment to the future of ATW. It's a great feeling to see that so many have stepped up on this building campaign initiative. I am proud to call them my friends and my brothers." Campaign Leadership Announces New Pavestone Project B Donate Today and Personalize a Stone for Delta Kappa oth the front and rear plazas of the new ATW house will consist of hundreds of 6" x 12" pavestones, and we invite you to claim one as your own with a personal engraved message.
