Beta Tidings A Publication of Beta Sigma Psi At Purdue University fall 2013 Summer Renovations Transform Beta Sig Projects Remain—Your Participation Needed T he summer was busy at Beta Sigma Psi as we made a huge dent in projects throughout the Chapter House. We renovated the secondfloor bath; changed the ceiling tiles and replaced the French doors in the dining room; replaced all of the doors on the second-floor study rooms; and created a model study room (Omicron) for recruitment efforts. This was the most ambitious undertaking to date to restore our old house and enhance the comfort level and live-in appeal for our brothers and future Beta Sigs. Combined with the $95,000 renovation of the exterior last summer to enhance curb appeal, we have spent over $215,000 so far in our quest—the One Brick at a Time campaign. But the most critical and costly renovations remain. The electrical, technology, heating/air- conditioning, and fire suppression system still need to be addressed as soon as possible. If you haven't already contributed, please prayerfully consider your best effort to help us achieve our goal of $767,000. That's only $1,000 per alumnus if we had 100 percent participation. Obviously, we don't anticipate reaching 100 percent participation, so those of us who truly want the tradition to continue must make our best effort. Thanks to everyone who has stepped up. Keep Beta Sigma Psi a part of your life. Keep in contact, get involved, and keep creating the memories! Yours in Christ, Ken Luedtke '67 Beta Alumni Chapter President luedtkeken@hotmail.com This artist's conception of our study room was brought to life in a model study room created to assist with recruitment efforts. Beta Sig Engages Young Lutheran Members From Above Conference Provides Regional Opportunity B consultant, and active members of Alpha Chapter from the University of Illinois. eta Sigs from Beta Chapter were on hand this July to represent the Fraternity and University Lutheran Church during the From Above Summer Conference at Purdue University. Over 1,400 Lutheran youth group members attended the regional conference sponsored by Higher Things, a registered service organization of the LCMS. The event at Purdue was the largest of three regional events held this summer, the other two being held in Pennsylvania and Washington State. In addition to serving as an exhibitor, Beta Sig volunteers also gave tours of University Lutheran Church each evening and provided a root beer and ice cream social during the Thursday night activities. Adam Rusch '02, who helped organize the event, said, "Showing these youth an example of how college men remain active in the church was the most important part of our mission! We especially want to be good hosts when Lutheran youth groups show up on our campus." "Building awareness of Beta Sigma Psi in the Lutheran community is critical to sustaining our growth as an organization. The National Fraternity has partnered with the Educational Foundation to ensure Beta Sig is involved and engaged with young college-bound students at events like Higher Things and other regional and national youth gatherings," said Rudy, Beta Sigma Psi National vice president and Purdue alumnus. Rudy Ristich '01 mans the Beta Sigma Psi exhibitor table at the From Above Conference this summer. Assisting with the Beta Sig events were Rudy Ristich '01, Max Kottlowski '09, and Jon Tower '10. Tom McKneight '10 and Corbin Scheumann '05 also came out to assist with the ice cream social, along with Adam Gebler, Alpha, the Beta Sigma Psi national leadership Taking part in the Higher Things conference proved to be a positive experience for everyone involved. The National Fraternity is making it a priority to organize Beta Sig exhibitors, delegations, and volunteers for Lutheran events. If you know of an event being sponsored by a Lutheran organization and see a way for Beta Sigma Psi to be involved, we would love to hear about the opportunity.
