Butler university Beta Zeta Launches Mentor Program Alumni Assistance Needed O ne of the greatest benefits of being a Delt is taking advantage of the wisdom of those that came before you. That is the basic idea behind the Delt Mentor Program. The mentor program is an initiative to pair undergraduate Delts with alumni to provide guidance and advice regarding their lives during and after college. The most common application of the program is for undergraduates to be matched with alumni based on their career interest so they can receive practical advice to help them find their first job and begin their career. The program is offered to Delt juniors. They are to consider their career and related interests and then submit an application to a small team of alumni who do their best to identify an alumnus who is a good match with their interests and aspirations. While undergraduates are encouraged to participate, it is not required. They must want to participate and be willing to put in the effort to develop a relationship with their mentor. What is required of the alumni mentor? Alumni mentor program volunteers assist with practical career advice to help their mentee move beyond his college years. The alumni mentor needs to listen to their mentee's interests, share advice and experience, and connect them with others to expand their network of contacts. The time commitment is very flexible and should naturally develop based on the relationship established. There are three basic things mentors are asked to do: 1. Meet with the undergraduate—get in touch and learn about their background, interests, and plans. 2. Stay connected—keep in touch and be available for questions. Contact them every once in a while to see how they are doing. 3. Provide contact—when appropriate, introduce them to other Delts, colleagues, and other professionals that may have good advice or even leads on job opportunities. Interested?
