DTD The Beta Zeta Shelter Beta Zeta Chapter I Delta Tau Delta Fraternity I Butler University I Fall 2013 To donate, please visit www.butlerdtd.org $615,275 Already Pledged to the Capital Campaign Chairman Challenge to Achieve $650,000 by October 15 A Submit your gift to the challenge and have your dollars doubled. s you may have read in our recent letter, there is an exciting giving opportunity happening for Beta Zeta alumni! For every new dollar you pledge today through October 15, up to the first $60,000, you will be recognized at double your committed gift amount. Thinking about giving $500 a year over a five year period, or $2,500 total? Pledge today and your contribution will be recognized at the $5,000 level. Please note— the tax deductible contribution amount is still considered $2,500. We will recognize donors in several ways, including plaques within the Shelter for contributions of $2,500 or more, gifts of $500 or more will be recognized in the new brick courtyard, and in campaign publications and chapter newsletters. To date, we have raised $615,275 toward our goal of $750,000, and now the dollars you give will have twice the impact on our campaign. Tax-deductible gifts must be a minimum of $2,500, which can be broken down into manageable payments of $500 a year for five years (fill out the left side of the enclosed pledge form). All contributions under $2,500 are not tax-deductible but will still be recognized at double the rate of the actual pledge within the challenge period (fill out the right side of the enclosed pledge form). Non-tax-deductible gifts can also be made online at www.ButlerDTD.org. This is truly a unique opportunity for Beta Zeta brothers. If we can meet this challenge by stretching our own generous commitments, the total amount raised within this period can be as much as $60,000, allowing us to exceed the $650,000 benchmark by Homecoming weekend. And speaking of Homecoming, mark your calendar to join us for an alumni cocktail and heavy hors d'oeuvres night on Friday, October (Continued on page 3) Save the Date Alumni Homecoming Weekend October 11-13 B eta Zeta has long been known for hosting large Homecoming gatherings for alumni, and this year will be no exception. In fact, we are planning for our largest Homecoming yet, which will officially kick off the Commitment to Excellence—our fundraising campaign for Shelter expansion and upgrades. Most alumni return to Butler during Homecoming weekend, so the House Corporation has always focused on planning a weekend where alumni can gather at the Shelter, share old stories, break bread, hear about the active chapter, and relax like the old days. The weekend will kick off with our fourth annual Alumni Cocktail Evening on Friday, October 11, from 7-11:30 p.m. More than 100 alumni attended this formal (coat and tie) event last year and we're expecting an even larger crowd at this year's event. Alumni are invited to bring their spouse/ significant other, but we kindly ask you leave the kids at home for this adults-only evening. Guests will enjoy a catered hors d'oeuvres spread, dessert bar (homemade by a DTD graduate's mother), and cocktails and wine selected by our very own Jeffrey Fignar '02. Jeffrey is a local wine and spirits distributor for Crossroads Vintners who is quite skilled at making cocktails and always brings plenty of wine. We will have light music, a large heated tent on the back patio for overflow, and the occasional cigar should the evening call for one! This event was created after input received at the 2008 Homecoming meeting. We wanted an evening where we could gather together, reminisce, and enjoy each other's company. This event is exclusive to Beta Zeta, as no other fraternity on campus offers their alumni an evening like this. We will continue our Saturday festivities with a small change this year. Because Butler is beginning to offer more on-campus activities for students, alumni, and visitors before the game, we decided to wrap things up early so that you won't miss out on the tailgate, Bulldog Beauty contest, and more at Hinkle. The Shelter will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for a light brunch, Schofield Scholarship Awards, and our annual House Corporation meeting. For those coming in from out of town, we will reserve hotel rooms downtown, at the Conrad, and near Keystone at a discounted rate (thank you, Justin Nichols '07). Please visit our website (www.ButlerDTD.org) or e-mail Derek Burns '04 (derekburns19@yahoo.com) for more information. We hope you'll plan on joining us for a wonderful weekend to re-kindle your love for our dear Delta Tau Delta that will surely keep you talking until next year's visit!
