N 3, 2010 .DM. Presentation on Prostrate Cancer Proton Treatment, Nov. 8 QUARTZSITE- John “Skip” Gallup, III will be presenting a talk about his personal experience with Proton Treatment for prostate cancer on Monday, Nov. 8th at the Senior Center, 3PM. Proton Treatment for Prostate Cancer is NON- invasive and virtually no side effects. Proton Treatment has been going on at Loma Linda University Medi- cal Center Hospital since 1990. They have treated over 11,000 men for pros- tate and a total of over 15,000 people have been treated for various cancer tumors. Breast, neck, brain, back bone, eye and prostate tumors are their current treatment areas. They are continuing their research and expect to expand into other areas. LLUMC is the #1 trauma center for southern California. “At Loma Linda, at least in the Proton Center, they strive to treat the ‘whole body’. They were concerned about diet, exercising, and mental health. All in all it was a most positive experi- ence,” said Gallup. “It was more like going to a casual resort then going to a hospital. We had teams of men that following their treatment in the morning would go play 18 holes of golf. Another group played tennis. Another group orga- nized hikes in the nearby mountains. In addition to treatment there were 4 major meetings each week that every- one was encouraged to attend.” The one down side is that the treat- ment takes 45 days, Monday to Friday only. No treatment is available on the weekend. Everyone will be there 9 weeks, but you are asked to plan on 10-11 weeks. In addition they have a staff just to handle insurance and help get your insurance to pay for the treatment. To learn more, join “Skip” on Monday, Nov. 8th at 3pm at the Senior Center, 40 Moon Mountain, Quartzsite. Spaghetti Dinner Benefit for Celia’s Rainbow Gardens Nov. 16 by Joanne Winer The 14th Annual All You Can Eat Spaghetti Dinner to benefit Celia’s Rainbow Gardens will take place on Tues. November 16 at the Q.I.A. The doors will open at 4:30, with the dinner starting at 5 p.m. in the dining room. The dinner will include salad, garlic bread, spaghetti, drinks and desserts for a $5.00 donation. The money raised will help with several projects that we are hoping to finish up in the Gardens this winter. There will be lots of great entertainment again this year. Barefoot and Boots Band (with Jerry Mullins) will be playing some great country and western music as usual, and Paul Winer will play some great boogie woo- gie blues music accompanied by Ralph Martin on the washtub bass. There will be plenty of food for everyone so you don’t have to stand in line unless you need to eat right away--you can sit down and watch the entertainment while you are waiting to eat. For more information, please call Joanne at 928- 927-6551. CRAFTS & YARN NOW OPEN! Same Location! Lots of New Yarn! We’re looking forward to seeing all our friends and customers!
