Please, folks, the people around you may be coping with terrible difficulties that are not visible. Be kind. Dear Annie: I loved the letter from the ''Lady Doctor,'' who was so thrilled with her MD degree that she wanted everyone to address her mail to ''Dr. Jane Doe and Mr. John Doe.'' My wife and I met in grad school. She went on to get a Ph.D. Her mother is so proud that she addresses all of my wife's letters to Dr. Jane Doe. However, she is also a traditionalist, so when she writes to both of us, she addresses her letters to Mr. and Mrs. John Doe. My wife will quickly tell anyone who asks that she is at least as proud of her Mrs. degree as she is of her Ph.D. — Mr. John Doe our daughter. They judge us extensive anger manageconstantly. The best thing I ever bought Dear Readers: Of all the columns I've written, the one on the care and cleaning of the carpet in my home has generated by far the most interest and, shall I say, creative feedback! It's also had the most requests to reprint. Since you asked, here it is again. Enjoy! I have a love/hate relationship with carpet. I love how it looks, but I hate dirty carpet. The thought of what lurks between those fibers gives me the heebie-jeebies. When it comes to keeping carpet clean and pristine, its two enemies are: 1) soap and 2) water. And guess what carpet cleaners use to clean carpet? Soap and water. The problem with the soap is that there is always a residue that remains. Most cleaners use way too much to start with, leaving no way to retrieve every last bit. Any soap left in the carpet becomes a sticky dirt magnet, which is a huge problem. The problem with the water is that it is not extracted fully, which leaves the carpet wet for too long, causing it to mold and mildew. That sets you up for an icky mess. But, I am so proud to say, I've licked the problem. After more than 8 canister with hot water. I go one step years, my carpet is still lovely. further. I boil the water and pour it in Pristine. Hunt Everyday Cheapskate Utility to offer targeted rate reductions to businesses SAN FRANCISCO — Pacific Gas and Electric Company will soon begin offering a competitive new electric rate aimed at promoting economic development by making it possible for eligible employers to keep, expand or launch new operations in California rather than leave the state. The new rate, approved Thursday by the California Public Utilities Commission, is designed to benefit all PG&E cus- tomers by making more revenues available to cover fixed costs. "As a major supplier to California businesses, PG&E is committed to helping create and retain jobs in our communities by offering appropriate incentives that will enhance our state's competitiveness and energize its economy," said Chris Johns, President of PG&E. "Our new economic development rate goes hand in hand with MOULE'S TEHAMA COUNTY GLASS other initiatives we have launched to boost economic vitality in the communities we serve." The newly approved economic development rate targets companies — with power loads of at least 200 kilowatts — that would otherwise locate operations and hire employees out of state. The rate will provide a 12 percent rate reduction for five years for those who avow that they need it to stay, site new operations or expand existing facilities in California. To address the more acute challenges faced by cities and counties in PG&E's service area with unemployment rates at least 25 percent higher than the state average, the utility will offer a more significant rate reduction of 30 percent for five years. PG&E's proposal to support job creation, which was drafted in consultation with several local government leaders, received unprecedented support from a coalition of 31 cities and 10 counties in Northern and Central California. "I want to commend PG&E and the Commission for addressing the major economic challenges we face and being so responsive to the unique needs of our high unemployment communities," said Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin. "This reduced rate is exactly the kind of tool we need to grow businesses and jobs for our residents. The 40 cities and counties that came together to support this program are extremely grateful for today's action and are proud of AUTO GLASS The A PROFESSIONAL AUTO GLASS INSTALLATION FACILITY -BOATS/RVS -TRUCKS/CARS -EQUIPMENT 515 Sycamore St., Red Bluff • 529-0260 Chapel of the Flowers 5am to 11pm FREE KIDS SCOOP with purchase of equal or greater value 905 Walnut St. | Red Bluff • 528-1698 11am-9pm • 7 days facebook.com/scoopsofredbluff http://www.facebook.com/scoopsofredbluff ONE STOP ✓Check out our selection of beer, wine & tobacco Your One Stop Convenience Store 714 Walnut St., Red Bluff FREEDOM FROM DEBT!
