Founders' Day Celebration a Success for Alabama Beta A labama Beta celebrated the 146th Founders' Day on April 28 at the south zone of Bryant-Denny Stadium. Actives and alumnae gathered for afternoon tea and hors d'oeuvres. The 2013 executive council performed a candle-lighting ceremony to remember our founders, chapter awards were distributed, and the House Corporation held its annual meeting. A new award was instituted in honor of Barbara Best Kucharski '79 for her dedication to Pi Phi and Alabama Beta as former AAC chairman and House Corporation member. Arrow Board recognized the outgoing senior pledge class by presenting each member with tassels to wear at graduation as they transitioned from actives to alumnae. The afternoon provided one last opportunity to be together as a chapter before spring final exams and summer vacation. Lawrence Award, which is given to an outstanding senior who has a deep love and loyalty to the Alabama Beta Chapter of Pi Beta Phi, as evidenced by their servant leadership. This local award was established in memory of Elise Gribbon's mother, Ms. Millicent T. Lawrence. Elise was a member of North Carolina Alpha who served Alabama Beta for 50 years on AAC and the House Corporation and was active in the Tuscaloosa Alumnae Club. Livia Guadagnoli '10, Trumbull, Conn., was awarded the Jean Wirths Scott Leadership Award for her extraordinary service on the Alabama Beta executive council in accomplishing her duties and implementing changes and improvements in her chapter. Rachel Drumright '09, Nashville Tenn., was awarded the Chapter Service Award to recognize her dedicated service to the fraternity throughout her collegiate experience. She had an impact on chapter unity and achieved results in line with Pi Phi values. Carmen Groom '09, Birmingham, Ala., was awarded the Amy Burnham Onken Award, which recognizes a member of the senior class who has best lived up to Pi Beta Phi's qualities of excellent scholarship, outstanding campus participation, and community service during her collegiate career. Caroline Collins '15, New Orleans, La., was awarded the first-ever Barbara Best Kucharski Award. This local award is given for exhibition of extraordinary leadership potential as a member of the new member pledge class. It represents the highest honor to a dedicated future leader of Pi Phi to commemorate its namesake for her years of service to Pi Beta Phi.
