Air Pollution Control is the local agency authorized to make burn day determinations. This agency will also set the hours for burning within the County of Tehama including the City of Red Bluff. This information is avail- able to the public every morning after 8:30 a.m. via recorded mes- sage at the number listed above. Upon confirmation of a burn day you must adhere to the remaining City of Red Bluff Burn Regula- tions. 1. The fire must be in one or more small heaps or piles. 2. The fire must be set on the concrete portion of the gutter; in leaf piles small enough so that the heat generated by the fires does not damage the asphalt portion of the roadway. 3. There must be at least one adult in actual attendance with water, garden hose, shovel, or other fire extinguishing equip- ment on hand at all times. While the burning of leaves is an accepted practice within the City of Red Bluff there is an alternative. Green Waste of Tehama County will accept up to three 32 gallon containers of yard waste on non recy- cling weeks. Please do not bag these leaves; place them directly into the appropriate waste containers or they may not be accepted. Place the containers at the curb with your garbage container. This dis- posal option may take longer, depending on your amount of leaves, but it is a safe alternative to burning. For Halloween Sunday: trick- or-treaters please look both ways before crossing any street, drivers should be cognizant of an increase in pedestrian traffic. Trick- or-treaters and drivers, please remember that certain costume components, such as masks, can greatly limit a person’s field of vision, especially at night. Trick- or-treaters and parents, please check the candy you receive to assure that it is safe to eat. If candy is not in its original packag- ing, packaging has been altered, or appears to have been tampered with in any way please do not eat the candy. IN THE MILITARY Grant completes basic Navy Seaman Recruit Christopher M. Grant, son of Trisha L. Grant of Red Bluff and Jeremy M. Grant, of Redding, recently com- pleted U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Grant com- pleted a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physi- cal fitness. The capstone event of boot camp is Battle Stations. This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. Battle Stations is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedi- cation, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. Its distinctly Navy flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a Sailor. Grant is a 2009 graduate of Red Bluff Union High School.
