TEXAS ALPHA ACCOLADE Texas Alpha Membership Reaches New Heights: More Than 200 Men Actives Excel On and Off Campus W elcome to another fall at the University of Texas. After a successful summer of recruitment, Texas Alpha is excited to begin the year and excel in all that we do. MEMBERSHIP LOOKING TO NEW HEIGHTS Horacio Villareal '14 (right), with Payton Schramm '14, after being elected the UT student body president. SigEp has consistently been one of the largest fraternities at UT these past years. With outstanding recruitment teams, a culture of strong leaders, and devoted brothers, it's easy to see why our numbers have grown. As we say goodbye to our seniors and welcome a new class of 49 freshmen, we are positioned to post one of our largest numbers ever—more than 200 members. Texas Alpha is proud that we continue to grow while maintaining our academic performance—beating our recruitment competitors, as well as the UT Greek and campus averages. BROTHER ELECTED STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT SigEp was proud to have members involved in a myriad of student organizations last spring. Carter Kemp '15 and Mike Savage '15 were selected to join the Silver Spurs, and Andrew Rexroat '15 was chosen to join the Texas Cowboys. Rader Smith '14 will also serve as a handler for Bevo throughout the fall season; a great achievement for Rader and Texas Alpha. SigEp is particularly honored by Horacio Villareal '14, who was elected Student Body president for UT, an accomplishment that very few Greek candidates have held in the history of our school. The Blood Center of Central Texas bus takes donations in the SigEp parking lot. TEXAS ALPHA TAKES CONCLAVE This July, Texas Alpha sent active members and alumni to Grapevine, Texas, to represent our chapter in the 53rd biannual Conclave. Members attended leadership seminars and banquets celebrating SigEp's success throughout the four-day event. The weekend culminated with Texas Alpha Education Foundation outbidding all other chapters to purchase the Conclave flag. The flag was purchased to honor the devotion of Brother John Tyler '63 for his many years of service to Texas Alpha. CHAPTER FOCUSES ON PHILANTHROPY Texas Alpha continued the tradition of philanthropic work this spring with our annual dodge-ball event. This year guests and members raised more than $6,000 for the 1 Million 4 Anna Foundation—a charity devoted to supporting the fight against Ewing's Sarcoma. Texas Alpha also hosted a blood drive to help victims of the fertilizer plant explosion in West, Texas. The Blood Center of Central Texas brought a donation bus to the SigEp parking lot and drew more than 30 donations in a single afternoon. While Texas Alpha continues to enjoy great success in recruiting, academics, and serving in leadership roles, it would not be possible without our alumni. Without your continued support as role models and mentors, we could not hope to maintain our levels of performance, as individuals or as a chapter. With football upon us, feel free to stop by for tailgating or a house tour. And remember, you always have a home at SigEp.
