Saturday, October 23, 2010 – Daily News – 3B Religion Faith&Worship Church news Southern Gospel at it’s finest coming to Red Bluff Nov. 4 Helpful talk in the political arena I am a big fan of talk radio. When I am able, I listen to those with conserv- ative views and those with liberal views. The programs I like best are those that help to reinforce my faith in God-as the Creator and Sustainer of all. The Southern Gospel Concert Series presents TaRan- da Greene with God's Country Band in concert at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4, at First Church of God, 1005 S. Jackson St., in Red Bluff. TaRanda Greene has one of the most recognizable and remarkable voices in Gospel music today. For more than 10 years she has toured the world with her family’s min- istry, The Greenes, where she has received countless acco- lades and awards for her amaz- ing talent and spirit. TaRanda was hired out of high school to sing the soprano part for The Greenes, who had already gained momentum as one of America's most loved trios in Gospel Music. Shortly after being hired with the family ministry, she began to fall in love with group owner and known personality, Tony Greene. After a few years of courting and dating, Tony asked TaRanda to marry him in front of a live audience of 10,000 people at the National Quartet Convention. She said “Yes” having no idea what the next 10 years of her life would hold. Tony and TaRanda became Gospel Music's sweethearts. TaRanda gave Tony her life, her love, two beautiful little girls, and one of her kidneys. Tony's remaining kidney was failing and TaRanda was the perfect match. Last summer, Tony and TaRanda went through a very successful kidney transplant. The doctors said they had never seen such a perfect match and it seemed like all was going perfect. On Sept. 28th, Tony went into the hospital with an infection and never came home. A few days later, he passed away, but, TaRanda’s story and her song lives on to inspire, worship and cele- brate Jesus Christ. Opening for Taranda Greene will be God's Country Band — a family Christian country band who have trav- eled our western region gaining fans wherever they go. Greene The last Friday in April marked the end of "Primetime America", a two- hour program produced by the Moody Broadcasting Network from Chicago for the last 28 years, and aired locally on KVIP-98.1 FM, Redding. Archived programs of Prime America are still available from the Moody Broadcast- ing Network at www.primetimeameri- ca.org. Programming changes for weekdays 2 pm-4 pm, were made to bring on a new program called "In The Market With Janet Parshall", a live two-hour listener call-in program archived www.moodyradio.org/inthe- marketwithjanetparshall. I enjoy this new program, as it challenges listeners to examine major news stories and issues being debated in the marketplace of ideas, and addresses them in light of Word of God. In the fast-paced, caller-driven format, Parshall evaluates newsworthy topics with guests and listeners using the Bible as a framework for discus- sion. The daily program addresses rel- evant issues important to Christian believers, with an exciting mix of lis- tener interaction and commentary from highly respected guests. Janet Parshall is not only a talented commentator, but a radio veteran with a solid commitment to Jesus Christ. She has a way of exploring the "issues behind the issues". It is amazing to me how much information, and insightful commentary she can present in just two hours. "In the Market" is consis- tent the mission of Moody Radio, which is dedicated to producing and delivering compelling programming, filled with solid Biblical insight and creative expressions of faith that help listeners mature in their relationship with Christ. Regardless of your politi- cal leanings, either conservative or not-so-conservative, I invite you to lis- ten Monday through Friday 2-4 pm. Another program aired on 98.1 KVIP-FM is "The Town Square" from 9pm-10pm, Saturday evenings, pro- duced by American Policy Round Table. It has been said that two things you never want to discuss in public are religion and politics. The Town Square presents an hour of bold, provocative "in public" discussion about issues involving both religion and American pol- itics archived at www.aproundtable.org. Recognizing that the American core is a com- mitment to ideas and prin- ciples, the AP Roundtable was established with the mission of restoring his- toric Judeo-Christian prin- ciples to American public policy. The Roundtable seeks to fulfill this mission statement by meeting three core objectives: discussed in California’s legislature. You can also learn information as to the proponents and opponents of particular bills, as well as see the past voting records of those in our Califor- nia senate and assembly. As we get closer to our elections in November, it is important to become as "well- informed" voters as we can possibly be. Under- standing what is at stake in the potential loss of our liber- ty. We must do all we can to protect our liberty! Two quotes from John Adams say it best: Jay Nelson GodTalk 1. Rekindling the American Spirit – telling the story of Liberty everyday. 2. Building networks of leaders to help others join the adventure of responsible citizenship. 3. Overcoming evil in civil society by promoting positive alternatives in public policy. "In the Market with Janet Parshall" and "The Town Square" radio features are resources that can assist each of us to be "wiser" when casting our ballots in the voting booth. An excellent resource regarding political issues for us closer to home as California citizens, is the Campaign For California Children and Families (CCF) in Sacramento. CCF works to protect children, parents, taxpayers, persons of faith and conscience, and the sacred institution of marriage and family. You can log on to www.save- california.org to hear regular podcasts from director Randy Thomasson, and for information concerning bills being "..a Constitution of Gov- ernment once changed from Freedom, can ever restored. Liberty, once lost be, is lost forever." and "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbri- dled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Consti- tution is designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inade- quate for any other." time to investigate, and use these great resources. My prayer is that readers will take Please pray for our rep- resentatives in government, that they would make decisions that honor God. To the Christian, the Apostle Paul has written, "Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I am full of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil. The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you." Rom. 16:19-20. NIV Jay Nelson coordinates Operation Christmas Child for Tehama County. He is a long-time resident and volunteer in the region with a special interest in blessing and encouraging the pastors. Vets stand guard over Christian flag in NC town KING, N.C. (AP) — The Christian flag is every- where in the small North Carolina city of King, except the place where supporters want it most: fly- ing above a war memorial in a public park. The city council removed the flag last month after a complaint from a citizen. The city’s attorney warned the flag could lead to a costly lawsuit. Since then, a round-the-clock vigil has been held near a replica flag in front of the memorial. City leaders are now considering their options. One plan would see the memorial sold or donated to a private organization. Mayor Jack Warren says the council will make a decision after meetings with lawyers. Protesters are planning a rally on Saturday in support of returning the flag to its old spot on the memorial.
