VOLLEYBALL Oroville 15 17 24 Red Bluff 25 25 26 By RICHGREENE DN Sports Editor It wasn’t the best night the Lady Spartans have had this season, but it was good enough, Tuesday, for a sweep of visiting Oroville. Red Bluff improved to 5-3 in the Eastern Athletic League with a win over the bottom-feeding Tigers. Riley Kittle had 10 kills to lead a Lady Spartans team that was hampered as much by their own errors as they were helped by Oroville’s. Red Bluff showed encouraging signs in their service game, blocking and digging, but it was once again their hitting errors that were a source of con- cern for coach Angie Ayers. “You can’t win matches against good teams with 24 attacking errors,” Ayers said. While the Spartans might get away with that type of effort again on Thurs- day when they host a one-win Las Plumas squad, the following match is against a team where good might be an understatement in describing them as the Spartans travel to Pleasant Valley. On Tuesday night, 11 of the 24 attacking errors came in a closely fought 26-24 Game 3. However, They weren’t coming from Lottie Jones. The junior saved the last game to be her best, as she racked up five kills — most of them coming at key times. April Allwardt was a strong pres- ence at the net throughout the night and accounted for three block assists. Kaitlann Weber had an off night offensively, but made up for it on defense with 12 digs and a number of hustle plays.
