By ANDRE BYIK DN Staff Writer A fair staple for years, Tehama Trail offers fairgoers a taste of this agricultural county. From Manton apples and wines to Corning olives, the Tehama Trail Marketplace at the Tehama District Fair this weekend aims to showcase local products. "We want to introduce (fairgoers) to what the county has to offer," said Debbie Sundelius, who works with the Tehama Fairgrounds Community Alliance. "We have fantastic foods here that they probably use and don't even know that they're local." The Tehama Trail Marketplace offers smoked beef strips from Turri Family Farms in Flournoy, cinnamon glazed walnuts from Bianchi Orchards near Los Molinos, and a cabernet from Alger Vineyards in Manton, to name a few. "Our whole idea is to bring agriculture back to the fair," Sundelius said. Tehama Trail also offers wine tasting through the weekend. For $2, fairgoers can taste a sample of a local wine. For $5, fairgoers can sample three wines, or receive a glass. Wine tasting goes from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. today, and 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Tehama Trail Marketplace opens at 10 a.m. through the weekend. It's the fifth year Tehama Trail has been at the Fair, and proceeds go back to the Tehama District Fairground, Sundelius said. The Marketplace also features showcase events throughout weekend. On tap for today will be Larson Honey from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pacific Sun Olive Oil from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Apples from Dove Acres in Manton will be showcased from noon to 4 p.m. Pedrozo Dairy and Cheese Co. will take the 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. slot. Corning Olive Oil Co. and Jolene Queen (The Queen's Pantry) will be showcased from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tehama Trail also is raffling off a Brinkmann Medallion five burner gas grill. Raffle tickets are $5, and the drawing will be held Sunday. Participants don't need to be present at the drawing to win. ——— It'll be hard for fairgoers to miss the 108foot mural on the Senior Arts and Crafts building this weekend. Not only is the mural depicting life in Tehama County massive, but the artists behind it will be working on it throughout the fair. It's also possible for fairgoers to be a part of the mural itself — if their willing to open up their wallets. As part of a joint effort between the Tehama Fairgrounds Community Alliance and Red Bluff Art Association portions of the mural are being sold as a fundraising effort. Local business logos, trademarks, ranch brands and even family names are being worked into the mural without compromising its artistic integrity. "We want the community in this mural," said Debbie Sundelius, who volunteers with both organizations. One space where the artists are working in business logos is around a painting of a barrel racer. The artists have expanded the painting to include a rodeo arena and are filling the spaces where advertisements are normally on the background walls. A painting of a cattle drive is getting similar treatment with local ranchers being able to pay to have their brand depicted on one of the cattle. As of Thursday around $1,350 had been raised by the fundraising effort. The money is being split between the Community Alliance, for future fairgrounds upgrades and the Art Association, to cover its cost putting together the mural. Sundelius said she has another $475 in pledges. Anyone wanting to add their own logo or name to the mural is asked to stop by the group's table at the Tehama Trail Marketplace in the Cafeteria Building.
