ELECTION Guide 2010 District Court Judge District 12 George G. Franks Five years ago, I decided to run for District Court Judge because I believed I could improve the Cumberland County Court system by being a fair and impartial judge. I promised to decide cases based on the facts and the law. I have kept my promise to the people of Cumberland County. Significant changes have occurred in District Court. I practiced as an attorney in Fayetteville for over 20 years. All sides of justice are familiar to me. I worked as an Assistant District Attorney and as an Attorney for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department before entering private practice as a defense attorney. I continue to have a deep respect for law enforcement. For over 30 years, I have been a practicing psychologist. My experience as a psychologist gives me a unique perspective of the legal system and the greater problems of crime, mental illness, troubled families and youth and drug and alcohol addiction in Cumberland County. As one of your current District Court Judges, I have worked in family court and criminal court. I have applied my educational, professional and life experience to the courtroom. I have worked to make your courts fair and impartial. My colleagues and I are achieving what we set out to do in improving Cumberland County District Courts. Not all problems are solved, but we continue to work on issues as they arise. I believe that my record and my experience qualify me for your District Court Judge. I am running unopposed, but I ask for your vote and your support so that we can continue to improve our courts. David H. Hasty Professional: Graduated from UNC - Chapel Hill w/ undergraduate degree in 1983 and from North Carolina Central University School of Law (cum laude) in 1987. Served as a prosecutor and private attor- ney of 20 years and have served as a district court judge for almost four years. My education, experience and temperament qualify me to serve as a judge together with my committment to apply the law fairly and evenly to all parties who appear before me. Toni S. King I believe that I am qualified to serve as a District Court Judge based on my experience in private practice and my past two years as a judge. I have been fortunate to have practiced as an attorney and understand what it feels like to stand on the opposite side of the bench. I treat everyone with respect and dignity, but moreover, I understand that as a Judge, it’s my duty to provide fair decisions and an oppor- tunity for individuals to have their voices and cases heard in an unbiased setting. I don’t focus on the num- ber of guiltys or not guilty verdicts, but the facts of each case. I follow the law and uphold due process as guaranteed by our state and U.S. Constitution for each person that appears in my court no matter their color, creed, financial status or place of origin. I have the qualities and character to serve the citizens of Cumberland County and I am committed to providing firm, fair and equal justice for all! WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM OCTOBER 20-26, 2010 UCW 29
