Kidsville Kids Bring Sweet Music to 4th Friday by JANICE BURTON The arts are celebrated in Fayetteville each month during 4th Friday. This month, the performing arts will be celebrated as the Kidsville Kids! bring their considerable talent downtown. The Kidsville Kids! is a musical performing group under the direction of Joy Cogswell. In its second year, the group brings together talented youngsters with a passion for performing. The brainchild of Kidsville News! and Up & Coming Weekly Publisher Bill Bowman, the group brings together talented youth who represent the ideals and character that is so important in the Kidsville News! publication. Bowman, whose son Grady performed throughout his childhood and is today on Broadway, also saw it as a means of creating a vehicle that will allow children to develop their talent through public performances. Cogswell, the director of the Snyder Music Academy, heads up the group and is excited about the performance at 4th Friday. “This is the second performance for the kids in this new year,” said Cogswell, who explained that tryouts were held this summer for new members of the ensemble. “They will perform at 7:30 p.m. on the corner of Hay and Maxwell Streets.” Cogswell said that the performance will feature a song from the ‘40s, a rock and roll song, a patriotic song and a ballad. “Our boys will perform “Your Raise Me Up,” that evening,” said Cogswell. “This is the most boys we’ve ever had, and we really wanted to spotlight them.” Don’t expect the ensemble to stand still. Each of their performances is profes- sionally choreographed by Chelsea Carey, a talented dancer who has performed in a number of venues and who teaches dance at the music academy. “Chelsea does such a great job with the kids,” said Cogswell. “We’ve got such a lot of talent with this new group. They have picked up the choreography im- mediately. This group has really gelled together. They are all so talented and are such good kids.” Cogswell said that during tryouts she looks for performers in the age range from 6-12. The students sing (and sometimes dance) and spend some time getting to know Cogswell and Carey. “We look for outgoing children who love to perform,” said Cogswell. “They work very hard, and we hope that people will come out on Friday and see them, and hope- fully invite them to perform at local events. We really hope to get some performance opportunities for them because they do such a wonderful job.” 4th Friday is on Oct. 22, and the ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. It’s a show you are not going to want to miss.
