(MCT) Pastor Raymond Davis Jr., Greater Corinthian Church of the Christ: For spiritual life to become stagnant means that something has taken your attention away from your spiritual practices that make possible the spiritual life. The Bible calls the spiritual life "life of peace." "For to be spiritually minded is life and peace." (Romans 8:6b) Four basic practices are essential to a vibrant spirituality: prayer, Scripture reading, church fellowship and occasional fasting. Of these four practices, the first two give an anoint- ing that's very soul nurturing. Sometimes spiritual stagnation comes through short and long periods of troubling circumstances that bring about fear. But such times are times to remember what is said in the word of God: "God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and a sound mind" in 2nd Timothy 1:7. Sometimes spiritual stagnation comes through human failure. There is lost focus and straying away from the right path. The Bible speaks of David, whom God loved very dearly and who was made to realize his straying away and lost focus. He didn't stagger in his faith; he sought the path to recovery. He didn't use the word stagnant. In his confes- sion prayer, he told God he had experienced lost joy and he wanted it back: "Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation" were his words. (Psalm 51:12) Your revelation or theirs? Have you ever wondered why some people don't get the victory when they are facing the enemies of life? One reason is because they are trying to fight the good fight of faith with someone else's revelation. "Saul clothed David with his armor, and he put a bronze helmet on his head; he also clothed him with a coat of mail. David fastened his sword to his armor and tried to walk, for he had not tested them. And David said to Saul, "I cannot walk with these, for I have not test- ed them." So David took them off." I Samuel 17:38-39 In this passage we find David getting ready for a battle against the biggest enemy he had ever faced. In fact, Saul's army was terrified of the giant Philistine warrior that was boasting himself so proud. As David was getting ready for this battle, King Saul clothed him with his own armor, which was the finest in the land. As David tried to walk in the armor he stopped, took it off and said these powerful words, "I have not tested them!" David then took his sling shot and 5 stones and defeated Goliath! Just like David could not have defeated Goliath using Saul's armor, you will not be able to defeat your challenges with someone else's revelation of God's word. Too many people hear about, or see someone else standing on God's word in faith and walking in the victories of life. So they give it a try and when it doesn't work for them they come up with the conclusion that it just doesn't work. Standing on the promises of God's word, whether it is for heal- ing, provision, protec- tion, deliverance, your family or some other area in your life is far more than rattling off a few scriptures, tossing up an occasional prayer, just copying another person's confession or what they have done! There is also a danger that arises from ‘borrow- ing’ revelation. It is clearly shown in Acts 19:14-17 in the account of the seven sons of Sceva. These guys were relying on what they had heard from the Apostle Paul’s ministry, not on their own revelation. Verse 16 describes what happened when they tried casting evil spirits out of a man that was possessed, "Then the man in whom the evil win the victories of life. David knew what would work for him. He had built up confidence in his weapon and went out and won the fight. Larry Jensen GodTalk did! spirit was leaped on them and overpowered them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wound- ed." The word of God has to become real to you. Revelation is: some- thing that is revealed, made known, shown plainly. A revelation only comes from time spent in the Word. Time spent in God's word builds the confidence you need to fight and Speak Life: God's Word is truth. As I read His Word, speak His Word and believe it in my heart, His Word becomes truth in me. When I believe God’s truth and speak God's truth then I will win the battles of life that I face. Larry Jensen and his wife, Chaunda, have lived in Red Bluff for 19 years and are founders of Jensen Ministries. They are Missionary Evangelists, traveling to churches all over Northern California and Nevada. E-mail Larry at lrjensen@sbcglobal.net. Chorale to perform Sunday in Red Bluff The Red Bluff Master- works Chorale will sing a Festival of Psalms in a con- cert on Sunday, Oct.17 at 7 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in down- town Red Bluff. The Masterworks Chorale is under the direc- tion of Mark Franklin, Music Director and Founder of the ensemble. Darlene Lee is the accom- panist for the Chorale. The Masterworks Chorale is celebrating its fifteenth year of singing the choral music of the classi- cal and contemporary writ- ers. The volunteer chorale has performed major choral works like Messiah by G.F. Handel and The Creation by F.J. Hadyn. Other concerts have includ- ed hymn settings and spiri- tuals. Recently the Chorale has found acclaim with its Memorial Day concerts honoring God, our nation, and the men and women of the Armed Forces. The Festival of Psalms will highlight eleven Psalms that have become favorites. The concert will begin with a call to worship God with a setting of Psalm 96 and a proclamation of God’s great works from Psalm from various Psalm texts. Psalm One will offer a blessing. Psalm Twenty and Three, the Shepherd Psalm, will remind the audience of the work of a shepherd with his sheep. Psalm 27 will declare that God is light and salvation in a dark and war torn world. Psalm 40, a duet featur- ing sopranos Faith Dubke and Kathryn Busey, will declare the listening ear of God to those who wait on God. Psalm 42 will encourage the listener to long for God as a deer longs for water. Psalm 121 will declare that strength comes from the Lord. The concert will conclude with Tehama County Church Directory HOYT-COLE CHAPEL OF THE FLOWERS 816 Walnut St. - Red Bluff ABUNDANT LIFE FELLOWSHIP — 21080 Luther Rd. — Pastor J.E. When bills come you have to have your own revelation that God is your provider. When you're bound up with something, you have to know that God can deliver. When you're walk- ing in someone else's reve- lation of God's word, when the fight comes you will not be able to stand for long but when you're fight- ing with your own revela- tion you will win the battle every time just like David
