6A Daily News – Wednesday, September 25, 2013 Outlaws at the fair Photo courtesy of Studio 530 Photography The National Racing association announces the track preparation has begun leading up to Friday, Sept. 27, as the world of Outlaw Karts converge upon Tehama District Fairground. The best of the best will gather for the third annual Kick Up Your Heels Race of Champions, brought to you by Tehama Tire Services. TheTehama District Fairground's outside main arena will be ground zero for the three featured classes of Box Stock, 250 Int. and the prestigious Open class. The 1/8-mile track with only one straight away boasts a now renowned D shape, measuring 45 wide all the way around. This will be the largest and the fastest track on the west coast. Outlaw kart series officials are anticipating a thrilling event in Red Bluff. "We are extremely excited to have the Outlaw Karts at the Fair," said Outlaw Kart series promoter Ali Abbassi. "We have worked hard to put together a plan to run a race in this outdoor facility. The Outlaw Karts always put on a great show and I know fans from all around the area will be coming to see them run and will enjoy a first class show." The Outlaw karts are Miss Tehama County no stranger to the Tehama District Fairground as they will start their winter series in October and it will run through March of 2014. The Tehama District Fairground is on Antelope Boulevard about 2 miles east of Interstate 5. The show is free with fair admission, which is adults $8, children 6-12 $3. For the first time ever, the Tehama District Fair will feature a breastfeeding booth hosted by Tehama County Health Services Agency Women Infants & Children Program (WIC), Sept. 26-29, in the Tyler-Jelly/Commercial building, right next to the Tehama County Health Services Agency booth. Mothers will be able to come and nurse their babies in a comfortable setting, which will include a rocking chair, and a changing table. Educational materials on the benefits of breastfeeding will be provided, and there will be an activity table for any older children joining their mothers at the booth. Breastfeeding offers many benefits to both babies and mothers. Breast milk contains protein, iron, and other nutritionally important elements that babies and children need. Breastfed babies have a lower risk of ear infections, diarrhea/constipation, pneumonia and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Women who breastfeed have a lower risk of Type 2 diabetes, breast cancer, ovarian cancer and postpartum depression.
