Hennessey and Red Bluff resident Dirk Flournoy, 50, reportedly fought inside the store around 4:40 p.m. for rea- sons still unclear to police, Sgt. Dan Flowerdew said in a press release. Police received 911 calls saying the fight spilled into the parking lot and became more violent, Flowerdew said. By the time medics arrived, Flournoy was conscious but injured and Hennessey had fled on foot. Flournoy has since been released from St. Elizabeth Community Hospital after being treated for a stab wound to his hip. Hennessey is described as a Hispanic man, between 18 and 22 years old, about five feet, six inches tall and with a “stocky” build, Flowerdew said. By JULIE ZEEB DN Staff Writer Red Bluff Police shut down the area surround- ing the 1700 block of Walbridge Street for a vegetation fire reported at 12:13 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Dun- can Avenue and Wal- bridge that threatened several nearby structures. Shifting winds didn’t stop firefighters from sav- ing the four to five houses in the block that were closest to flames. While the fire went right up to the properties, burning a shed and some fences, no houses were reached and no one was injured, CalFire Battalion Chief Randy Rapp said. The fire, which was between 2 and 2.5 acres, started somewhere in the Only 3 show for RBUHS forum By GEOFF JOHNSON DN Staff Writer Fewer than half of the candidates running for the Red Bluff Union High School’s board attended a forum Monday night held the Performing Arts Cen- ter on the school’s cam- pus. Seven candidates are running for three board seats and all were invited to the meeting, said Kim Wheeler, whose organiza- tion, the Red Bluff High School California Teacher’s Association Political Action Commit- tee, hosted the event. Just three made it to the forum — former Tehama County Supervi- sor Barbara McIver, Shas- ta College Professor Daniela Sartori and Mari- anne Willard, a teacher. Incumbent Matthew Etzler and Elsa Martinez- Bautista, a business- woman, submitted written responses to questions provided in advance. Candidates often found more common ground on policies than disagree- ment. The three present frequently opened with “I agree” or included nods to their competition in their answers. Most, including Etzler and Martinez-Bautista, were noncommittal on contracting school jobs to outside companies. Some said outsourcing was acceptable or desirable under certain circum- stances but none endorsed it wholeheartedly. McIver took the field behind the houses, Rapp said. Several property own- ers were on scene watch- ing as firefighters worked to get the fire under con- trol, including Al Fortune. Fortune, who owns part of the property that burned, said he was home for lunch at his residence when he saw a huge plume of smoke and came down to the scene. The fire was contained at 12:51 p.m. and the cause is under investiga- tion. Responding agencies were Red Bluff Fire, Cal- Fire and Tehama County Fire Departments. ——— Julie Zeeb can be reached at 527-2153, extension 115 or jzeeb@redbluffdailynews .com. White’s wife, Megan, Mayor Jeff Moyer, Councilman Forest Flynn and members of the Red Bluff Police and Fire departments were in the audience watching as Police Chief Paul Nanfito pinned on White’s badge. “We stole him away from the Sheriff’s Office at the 11th hour,” Nanfito said. In talking to White during the last few weeks of his recruitment Nanfito said he borrowed a phrase from Presi- dent John F.
