Red Bluff Daily News Thursday, September 19, 2013 Page 7 Shootout games through the years Last year — 2012 Red Bluff 35, Corning 0 After three years, the Tehama County Shootout trophy has a new home: Red Bluff High School. The Spartans shut out rival Corning 35-0 on Friday and recaptured the all-time matchup lead at 24-23-1. It also marked the first time Red Bluff has opened their season 3-0 since 2004. Red Bluff set the tone for the night early, recovering a successful onside kick and scoring two plays later after senior quarterback Garrett Sandow connected with Levi Culp for a 28-yard touchdown less than 30 seconds into the game. Corning would get their best chance to score on their next possession after they reached Red Bluff's five-yard line on a drive that included a 34-yard run from junior quarterback Chayce Maday. Red Bluff would take over on downs and eventually score on a 10-yard run by Kyle Case with 4:10 left in the quarter. At fourth and long on their next possession, a Corning fake-punt-turned-blocked-punt from their own 10 would give Red Bluff a short field to work with at the Cards' sevenyard line. Go Spartans! It took Spartans senior Cody Demerath just two carries to bust into the end zone with 1:43 left in the quarter. The Spartans started the third quarter with a methodical drive that burned five-and-a-half minutes off the clock and ended with senior running back Dillon Milton scoring on twoyard run. Kicker Connor Ross completed the extra point attempt to make it 27-0. With about 2:38 left in the quarter, senior Tucker Gulliford pounded through defenders to score on a 16-yard run. 10 years ago — 2003 Red Bluff 31, Corning 6 With one of their best teams in years Red Bluff snapped a 3-year losing streak to Corning. The teams traded opening drive touchdowns with former Cardinal turned Spartan quarterback Shane Eller connecting with Cody Smith on a 27-yard pass play and Coring countering with a 4-yard rush by Jeremy Matz. Red Bluff then added touchdown runs from Smith, Jordan Sinclair and Eller to seal the game. Eller also connected on a 35-yard field goal. 20 years ago — 1993 914 Walnut St, Red Bluff, CA (530) 528-9496 GO BIG RED! Trailing 6-0 at halftime, Corning took the second half kick and drove down for the tying score on a Chad McCoy touchdown. Cory Grootvled added the decisive extra point and the Spartans never entered Cardinal territory in the second half. High School Football CALL TODAY (530) 529-1222 237 South Main Street Joey Skaggs
