Congratulations to Stephanie Marshall
Beginning Teacher of the Month for Cumberland County Schools
Stephanie Marshall is a fi rst year special educa- tion teacher at Jack Britt High School. A graduate of East Carolina Univer- sity, where she received her bachelor’s degree in special education, Mar- shall plans to apply to graduate school and earn her master’s degree within the next couple of years.
People often ask her “Why did you choose to be a special education teacher?” and Marshall’s answer is simple — “It just seemed right.” She has a younger brother with au- tism who has helped Marshall a great deal in her profes- sion. Because of their relationship, she is able to relate on a more personal level with the parents of special needs children and more fully understand the concerns they have for their child. Marshall acknowledges that her stu- dents just steal her heart. It gives her a feeling of joy to see all of her hard work pay off when her students accomplish the goals she sets before them. A dedi- cated and passionate teacher, Marshall is always looking for a way to meet ev- ery student’s needs.
