4A Daily News – Friday, September 13, 2013 Education in Tehama County KEEP ON LEARNING Aguilar enrolls at George Fox University NEWBERG, Ore. -- Francesca Aguilar of Corning has enrolled as a freshman at George Fox University of Newberg, Ore., this fall. Aguilar is one of 604 first-time freshmen joining the university. It is the biggest first-year class in the history of the institution and marks a 30-percent increase in freshman enrollment from the fall of 2012, when 423 enrolled. All told, the university welcomes 777 first-year undergraduates - which encompasses freshmen, transfers, readmitted students and international students after enrolling 581 first-year undergraduates last fall. The incoming class represents 18 states and four countries. George Fox is ranked by Forbes among the top Christian universities in the country and is a Christian college classified by U.S. News & World Report as a first-tier regional university. More than 3,500 students attend classes on the university's campus in Newberg, Ore. As a junior, he applied at many of the top ballet schools in the nation, but had his sights set on one in particular, the Joffrey Ballet School in New York City. Getting in was a longshot because official acceptance into the program hinged on Joseph being a high school graduate by Aug. 30. That meant he was going to have to buckle down and find a way to fulfill his senior year requirements in record time. Fifth grade teaches students about the formation of the colonies, the American Revolution, and governing the nation. "He was extremely motivated," said Shannon Barrow who is an admin- istrator at the school. By Aug. 30, Joseph had completed all of the required coursework — being a bit ahead to start was a big help — and was officially accepted into Joffrey Ballet School, one of only 50 students in the world to be received into the program this year. "He did it! We are so proud of him," said Barrow. This Friday, Joseph leaves for New York City where he will begin his professional ballet education at one of the most sought after institutions in the world. Students from this school have graduated and gone on to dance with world-class ballet companies, including the Joffrey Ballet, American Ballet Theater, New York City Ballet, Houston Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and other companies throughout North America and Europe.
