Now that fall is here and the weather has cooled down considerably from those 100 degree temps in the summer, it is time to get out in nature and see the sights downtown, even those off the beaten path. There are quite a few options, from walking around the main shopping and dining district, to a complete natural paradise through the Cross Creek Linear Trail, to exploring the history route with the Lafayette Trail. A great place to stretch your legs and see what downtown dining and shopping has to offer is to walk around the Market House to the east, west, north and south and on the side streets that follow. Brick sidewalks line the cutest shops, yummiest restaurants and most fun entertainment venues that Fayetteville has to offer. And there’s a great Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, which offer items this time of year such as muscadine grapes and mini pumpkins. The Cross Creek Linear Trail was developed for the nature lover and exercise buff in mind. Connecting Cross Creek Park and Linear Park with other phases in the works, this scenic walk takes you past Cross Creek and allows for that little bit of tranquility on your lunch hour or even for a morning run. If you want to stick with a planned route, the Fayetteville Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau has designed a series of walking trails in the Why Are the Flower Pots Downtown Called Hurley Pots? This question comes up more often than not, so to quell the mystery for newcomers in the area, these now iconic features to downtown Fayetteville are called Hurley Pots in honor of former revitalization was in its early stages in the early 1980s. The Hurley Pots are maintained by Fayetteville Beautiful and are open for adoption through their Adopt a Pot program. There is no charge for adopting a Hurley Pot, however, your commitment to adoption for one year includes ensuring the pot and its contents are maintained and litter free.
