You can see it in the eyes of a toddler when he throws a ball and then looks to his parents to clap for him. You can spot it in the face of a high school student as she searches for a talent so she can be noticed. You can even catch a glimpse of it in the tired looks of parents as they take care of their children and each other. And employees are no different - they need and want recognition too. In fact, many employees are motivated by the affirmation they recieve and employers would be wise to realize the impact it can have on their businesses. It's no secret that employee turnover is an everyday reality for most companies, but employee recognition is shown to have a positive correlation with retention. In a January survey by CareerBuilder, half of the surveyed workers said an increase in employee recognition would entice them to stay and reduce turnover. Theoretically, that could mean introducing an employee recognition program would reduce your turnover by 50 percent. However, it's not just about having a program; it's about having an effective program. Quality Matters Bersin & Associates, a research and advisory service from Deloitte, researched the importance of employee tions. While it's not very realistic to recognition programs, and specifically expect to implement every idea – a fact looked into how a program's quality that should be communicated to employees up front – you'll impacts turnover.
