Daily News photo by Tang Lor Swan Brothers Circus clowns Hi-Top and Zippy help each other out with a juggling trick. Nearly four decades of clowing around By TANG LOR DN Staff Writer Clowning around is just so much more fun when done with your brother. The Swan brothers should know. They’ve been doing it for the past 37 years. Zippy, not Hippy, also known as Andy Swan, is the older of the two who got into the business first. Zippy attended a fair that did not have a juggler. And when they asked him if he could juggle, Zippy couldn’t pass up the chance to show off his skills. After that act, he landed a job and started working for the circus. Hi-Tops, also known as, Mike Swan, decided to fol- low in his brother’s footsteps when he saw how much fun Zippy was having. The two worked for separate circuses, and had dif- ferent touring schedules, but one day right in the mid- dle of the USA, Mississippi, the two met each other again. By JULIE ZEEB DN Staff Writer While the Junior Livestock Auction has not been around as long as the Tehama District Fair, which celebrates its 90th birthday this year, it has been around for a while. www.redbluffyamaha.com Courtesy photo It is intense racing at its best and includes a free style event. With a $1,000 guaran- teed to the winner of the pro class, this year the Figure-8 race course will hold nothing back as teams from all over will converge upon Red Bluff to make their mark in the track. For more information visit www.tehamadis- trictfair.com. Jr. Livestock Auction hopes for big turnout The auction has been a part of the fair since 1952 or 1953 and while numbers are down a bit, they’re not bad, said Mike Collins, Junior Livestock Auc- tion Committee president. “It goes up and down each year, but it’s pretty consistent,” Collins said. “Some of it is the econo- my, some of it is just the number of kids in the pro- gram (changing).” This year when the auction opens there will be 254 entries with hogs outstripping all other classes See AUCTION, page 2B
