Schools are held accountable to both the federal system and the state system. The federal system measures annual yearly progress and is calculated based upon the number of students that reach or exceed proficiency on state assess- ments. The expectation is that more and more students will reach proficiency every year with 100 percent of students scoring proficient or above during the 2013-2014 school year. This year the AYP targets for the Jerry Garcia’s house goes up for sale NICASIO (AP) — Would-be home buyers now have a chance to taste the high life, Grateful Dead-style: Jerry Garcia’s house is for sale. The 11-acre-estate in rural Marin County was the bandleader’s last home before he died in 1995 at age 53. The sellers are ask- ing just shy of $4 mil- lion for the 7,000- square-foot Mediter- ranean-style home and surrounding grounds. The real estate listing describes amenities such as 1500-square- foot artist’s studio, solar-heated pool and organic garden. The estate, about a half-hour from San Francisco, has 300-degree views that span the Berkeley sky- line to the Pacific Ocean. In recent years, a man who bought the house and renovated it shortly after Garcia’s percentage of students expected to score at the proficient level or above on state assessments increased about 11 percentage points across the board from 2009. In Tehama County, 63 percent of schools met or exceeded the AYP target for language arts this year, and 54 per- cent of schools met or exceeded the tar- get for mathematics. “Improved scores are a testament to hard work and dedication to continuous improvement,” Champion said. “Our schools and students are performing even in these historically difficult eco- nomic times. When students, schools, districts and the community work together, our children benefit. It is all about working smarter together in these challenging times.” Visit www.tehamaschools.org for more in-depth information on student achievement.
