Among their three sons is Phil Johnson, a record-making MU quarterback who was injured during the famous "fifth down" game against Colorado in 1990. she held until she lost her battle with breast cancer in 1995—far too young at age 53. Her contributions to countless community and professional groups distinguished her as a talented leader, a skill she also shared as an Alpha Phi volunteer for the Delta Tau Chapter at Louisiana State University. A life-long learner, Sally was a home economics major from Paris, Missouri. She pledged Alpha Phi as a sophomore, together with her hometown friend and roommate, Linda Blades Moot '61. A native Columbian, Abby is a junior magazine design major with a 3.579 G.P.A., who serves as Alpha Phi's Director of Academics. Abby is a presidential scholar who has consistently been named to the dean's list, but also made time to log more than 800 community service hours during her first two years in college. Alpha Phi is proud to receive this generous new scholarship named in honor of a very special Omicron sister. Thank you to Sally's family and congratulations to Abby, the inaugural recipient of this wonderful award. Omicron Receives Jenkins Bequest $15,000 bequest from the Edward L. Jenkins Remainder Trust was received by Omicron Chapter earlier this summer. The former Phi Delta Theta predeceased his wife, Helen Gibler Montgomery Jenkins '32, who joined the Silent Chapter earlier this year. Their estate distribution has been set aside for capital improvements to the chapter house. At the time of her death, Helen was among the eldest of Omicron's surviving sisters. Engaging and spirited, she remained well-read and animated well into her 90s. She delighted in telling stories about her Alpha Phi college days and loved to share photos of a certain rear window of Omicron's chapter house, which afforded an occasional late date for those intrepid sisters who dared to defy curfew. During her lifetime she was a librarian, magazine writer, and journalist. Her valuable collection of rare books was gifted to Mizzou's Ellis Library through her estate. Omicron Chapter is grateful and extremely honored to receive this generous gift from Helen's family. Have you considered an estate gift to benefit your Alpha Phi chapter? Please contact Val Lawlor '71 at vallaw@aol.com or (214) 321-2757 to learn how you can make a lasting difference for Omicron.
