State, 4:30 p.m., ESPN Sports 1B Thursday September 16, 2010 Thornberry wins Open Week 3 football GOLF Northern California Open Championship CORNING — Ryan Thornberry held onto his lead, Wednesday, and captured the Northern California Open at Sevillano Links. Thornberry took the lead, Tues- day, during the second day of the three-day event. On Wednesday the Ceras golfer shot a 1-under, 71, to finish the tournament at 9-under. Roberto Galletti and Scott de Borba, finished three shots back in a tie for second place. Amateur Paul Misko finished fourth at 5-under. Fontaine Richardson and Cameron Nye each scored twice. Richardson racked up 128 yards on the ground. Zane Petty’s fourth quarter inception halted a Red Bluff comeback attempt. The Spartans scored on a run from Jason Vossoughi and a 54-yard pass play from Cory Lyon to Taylor Hickson. Players to watch Corning — #44 Tyler McIntyre, #11 Ryan Holland, #38 J.D. Red Bluff U-19 Coyotes win tournament University Prep at Los Molinos Friday, 7:30 p.m. University Prep Panthers: 0-2 (Last week lost 34-0 to Bur- ney) Los Molinos Bulldogs: 1-2 (Last week beat Weed 21-14) 2009 Los Molinos 20, University Prep 6 In last year’s season opener, the brother-to- brother combination of Sean to J.C. Conrad accounted for two touchdown passes and the Bulldogs won easily. Sean finished 11-for-15 through the air for 163 yards, while J.C. caught four balls for 97 yards. VOLLEYBALL Enterprise 22 25 17 25 9 Corning 25 11 25 21 15 The Lady Cardinals pulled out a huge home win against Enterprise, Tuesday, winning in five games. “We fought hard all night, battling out long rally points several times and we found a way to win,” coach Mike Albee said. Catherine Kinkle led Corning with 7 digs. She also recorded 19 digs. Brittney Garrett added six kills, nine digs and 11 blocks. Albee said Corning was able to utilize it’s strengths of serving, net play and attacking the ball all over the floor. Kinkle had 17 service points and three aces. Jessica DuBois added another 16 service points with five aces to go along with 25 assists. Hayley Calkins had nine digs and four blocks. Calkins, Courtney Thomson and Kelsey Noon- er each had four kills. Corning lost one-game leads twice during the match, but deep to pull out for the decisive fifth game 15-9. “We passed really well when we needed to allowing DuBois to set up the hitters — most importantly we beat a good team in our division by playing as a team with everyone on the floor play- ing their best,” Albee said. Corning improved to 3-5 on the season and was host- ing Shasta on Wednesday. Tehama Tracker VOLLEYBALL Westwood 18 17 20 Los Molinos 25 25 25 The Lady Bulldogs ran their record to 9-1-1 with a sweep of Westwood on Wednesday night. SOCCER Red Bluff 0 Shasta 4 A first half flurry by the Wolves was too much for Red Bluff to overcome, Wednesday, during a 4-0 loss. Shasta dominated the first half and scored three goals in the span of six min- utes. Lord came from behind to defeat Malore Wagner 3-6, 6-2, 10-8.
