Chair r speaksspeaks Oyster Roast to Celebrate Elected Officials The Strategic Alliance of Business Resources for Entrepreneurs or (SABRE). The name sounds very catchy and I think you will be hearing it a lot more about it moving forward. I was fortunate to be a part of a briefing on SABRE recently and thought I’d fill you in on what it’s all about. Several government and non-profit or- Chris Bostock ganizations exist just to offer professional no-fee resources to help small business meet the challenges of starting and grow- ing. SABRE is a coalition of these orga- nizations. The coalition consists of several familiar names to many of you - The Fayetteville Business Center, The Center for Economic Empowerment & Development (CEED), The Partnership for Defense Innovation (PDI), NC Military Busi- ness Center (NCMBC), our local SCORE Chapter, local Chambers, and several other resource partners. This alliance helps new and existing businesses with business Business ssSpotlightSpotlight plans, government contracting, and business loans. The goal is to make it easier for individuals and small business to do business by combining resource. You can learn more by going to www.sabre-cc. com or by calling Todd Lyden at our chamber office. SABRE is an- other example of how local organizations working together can lever- age our existing resources to help businesses thrive in our region. Speaking of small business you will continuously see in this brief and our Website new businesses having grand openings hosted by the Chamber of Commerce. You always have my personal and open invitation to attend. I attended the opening for Marcus Doss Salon recently. This company had all the ingredients of a great grand open- ing: an owner with a passion for their business pursuing a dream, supportive family and friends attending who share the same dream, a prayer or two, and elected officials offering support and excitement of a more jobs being created. This grand opening, like the many we host, was a great experi- ence. The excitement at these events is contagious and makes your own work day better knowing that our community is growing and prospering. Look forward to seeing you at our next grand opening! Passion for Service Seminar Slated Why do so many companies put more emphasis on attracting new customers than keeping the ones they already have? That’s the question that will be answered at an exciting workshop the Chamber will be pre- senting on Tuesday, September 21. A Passion for Service will be held at the Holiday Inn Bordeaux with a session at 8:30 a.m. and another repeat session at 1 p.m. Bill Drury seminars presents some startling facts: A study of over 500 businesses revealed that service is lacking in most businesses. 97% of companies studied failed mostly on lack of courtesy, skimpy product knowledge, not listening, no respect or nega- tive attitudes. Courting new business can cost up to five times more than strength- ening relationships with current clients. 96% of unhappy customers never complain about discourtesy, but 91% of them will not buy again from a business that offended them. If you want to reduce lost sales and create lifetime loyal customers, this is the workshop.
