They will be having a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting at noon Monday, Sept. 16. • Olive Festival – The Olive Festival last weekend was a great success and everyone had a good time. Congratulations to the Olive Festival Parade winners: Best Float – Corning Relay For Life, Best Miscellaneous – Bud Freitag and Nora Durbin (Pooper Scoopers), Best Vehicle – Kilroy Living History, Best Marching Unit – Stony Creek Muzzle Loaders, and Best Senior Equestrian – John Bolles. The winners of Corning Does it Bedder Bed Races are: Men's Team – Harvest Christian Center, Women's Team – US Bank, and Mixed Team – Harvest Christian Center. The Bell Carter sponsored Olive Cook–off winners are: Grand Prize - Sharon Searcy, First Place Wyatt Haywood, Second Place – Donna Ebell, and Third Place Sharon Searcy. The new event added this year, the Olive Pit Spitting Contest was won by Allen Powers in the Adult Category and Alec Hunt won the age division from 13-18 at 25 feet, 3 inches. For being a first time event we had 35 contestants and we hope to grow the event next year. We also had the Olive History Tour led by Mayor Strack for the first time and it was a big hit. There were two tours, at 11 a.m., and 1 p.m. and both 25 passenger TRAX buses were full. We hope to expand this next year as well. Thank you TRAX for the shuttle service on Saturday and for the tour rides. The Chamber would like to thank all of our wonderful sponsors who made this event possible. Join them at 1 pm for the "Let's Move Outside" event by participating in an outdoor based activity. There will be multiple service projects that you can participate in from litter pick up, trail bench installation, to beautification projects. Whether it is just you, or a group, they have a project for you. Bring your work gloves. This is a great way for students to get volunteer hours, for Boy Scouts to complete a service project and for the community to get involved and help improve your local Black Butte Lake Park. Black Butte Lake rangers will work with groups to assist in completing projects starting at 9 am. If there is a specific project your group is interested in, please contact Amber Machado so that she can accommodate your request. Refreshments and snacks will be available between noon and 1 p.m.. At 1 p.m., volunteers are invited to join the staff to celebrate "Let's Move Outside" by participating in a game of horseshoes, volleyball, disc golf, or by taking a hike on one of their trails. You can participate in an educational water safety exercise provided by local recreation vendors and have the opportunity to speak with them about their products that are on display.
