First Church of God’s Prophecy Conference First Church of God, 1005 South Jackson St., in Red Bluff invites everyone and every church to attend Preach the Word- Prophecy Conference, which will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7. It’s hard to look at the headlines, see the contin- uing turmoil in the Middle East and the decline of society here in the United States, and not think that we are living in the end times. The prophetic stories of the Bible seem to be happening right in front of our eyes today as we see what is happening around the world. Scripture tells us that we do not know the day, nor the hour, when Christ will return, but that we should recognize the signs of His imminent return and be prepared. The event will include the following guest speakers: • Dr. Tim LaHaye, Author of the Left Behind series • Joel C. Rosenberg, New York Times Best-sell- ing author and Middle East Expert • Lt. Gen. William G. “Jerry” Boykin (Ret.), Founding Delta Force Member • Mosab Hassan Yousef — Oldest son of Shiekh Hassan Yousef — founding member of Hammas • Greg Laurie, Senior Pastor of Harvest Christ- ian Fellowship • Skip Heitzig, Senior Pastor of Calvary of Albuquerque Refreshments, nursery care and grub club for youth will be provided. Teens and college students are welcome at this conference. For more informa- tion call 527-5717. Genesis Generation Radio turning the hearts Editor’s note: This is the third in a three part series on the Genesis Gen- eration – the generation that begins with those born in 1984 and after. When I was still in a congrega- tional ministry the proudest achieve- ment of the church I pastured was the introduction of Kids Klub to the neighborhood. A local elementary school agreed – with parental consent – to drop kids off at our church for an afternoon of tutoring, games, and ministry once each week. We got fifty of their lowest achievers, including four obviously ADHD boys amongst the ten-to-twelve-year-olds taught by Diana and me. As a credentialed reading specialist I knew better than to expect serious progress when we had about forty-five minutes a week to help kids with demonstrable read- ing disabilities. After less than a year one of the ADHD boys had dropped out of the program; the others were all medica- tion free and functioning at the top of their regular classes as well as in Kids Klub. What did we do? We prayed for the kids, loved and respected them they way they were, and held them accountable for what we knew they could do in the same Lord we served. We depended on God to do through us what He had called us to do in Him. All of the kids in our class brought their issues with them. One (I’ll call her Victoria) was a classic expression of the spirit of poverty. Whatever was asked of her she thought too much to ask. She claimed to be incapable of following a line of reasoning, of read- ing, of doing her homework. Her nose was constantly running from her chronic allergies. As it was with the ADHD boys we prayed for her, loved and respected her just as she was, and held her accountable from within the love and respect we bore her. She also rose to the top of her class, but she went on to fully embrace Jesus Christ and assume a position of leadership within her youth group as she entered her teen years. The last time we saw her she was even allergy free. In this season God calls all of His people to embody the words of Luke 1:17 to go forth in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, to prepare a people for right- eousness. Kids Klub was a deposit on the promise God has released in this Elijah season for wholesale trans- formation of two genera- tions as we become ambassadors of His reconciliation across the genera- tional lines. James Wilson GodTalk During this same period our church partnered with Youth for Christ to establish the city’s first skateboard park in our parking lot. Most of the adult volunteers who came out to help had no training and little understanding of youth culture. Yet they got along famously with the kids and there was mutual respect and love between them simply because they took the time to hang out with the kids and listen to them. The young people began listening to the older folks. More than sixty came to know Jesus in just one evening. This too is what I call a sacramental out- burst — a dramatic deposit on God’s promise of wholesale revival and intergenerational reconciliation for this time. Genesis Generation Radio is another deposit on God’s promise. The program makes debuts tomorrow evening – Sunday, Sept. 5 – on KBLF Red Bluff (AM 1490) from 6-8 p.m. The live, two-hour, call-in program will feature rotating teams of co-hosts. Each team will have one Boomer aged host and one mem- ber of the genesis genera- tion. One half of each team will have a couple of decades’ worth of coun- seling and/or crisis inter- vention experience — for whenever that might be needed. The purpose of the program is to enable the hosts to enjoy each others’ company and to model intergenerational honor and respect — just as we are called and invit- ed to do across the board in this season — and to take calls from young people and their parents. The coming of John the Baptist prepared the way for the coming of the Christ two thousand years ago. The coming of a John the Baptist sea- son prepares us for the season of the return of the King in this day — whenever that may be. We hope each of our readers will listen in to Gene- sis Generation Radio, participating in this piece of the preparation. More than that, we trust in Christ that He is leading us to be His ambassadors of reconciliation in this special time of favor and anticipation. Turning our hearts toward the children is the prin- cipal means of accomplishing this transformation. James Wilson leads PrayNorthState, a regional, state and national ministry of prayer and reconciliation. He is heard weekly on Radio KBLF, AM 1490, at 8 a.m. Saturdays and from 6-8 p.m. Sundays beginning Sept. 5. Church’s preschool celebrates 38th year First Church of God Preschool will begin its 38th year on Tuesday, Sept. 7. Located on the corner of Luther and South Jackson in Red Bluff, First Church of God Preschool continues to provide a safe and struc- tured environment where three and four year old children play and learn in a develop- mentally appropriate environment. As a state licensed Christian preschool the curricu- lum is standards based with a Biblical world- view. By providing small separate classes for three and 4 year- olds, students receive individualized nurturing and instruction. The ongoing goal is to devel- op students intellectual- ly, socially, physically, and spiritually through structured loving guid- ance from qualified teachers. First Church of God Preschool staff con- sists of Pam Maret, Director, Melanie Lytle Assistant Director and teachers: Judy Murr, Kindra Lourence, Cristy Fox, Nancy Casey and Marsha Flinn. Classes have filled quickly this year but there are a few openings in the morning and afternoon classes. A waiting list is also being maintained.
