4A Daily News – Wednesday, August 21, 2013 Commerce business&enterprise Human Bean named Business of the Month Olive Festival Week • Olive Festival – This is Olive Festival Week and we have lots going on. The Missing Olive clues were posted Monday and the olive was found Tuesday by Judy Masteller who will receive $150 donated by Harry Zemansky who creates the clues and hides the olive. Tonight the city of Corning sponsors the Water Festival 6-8 p.m. at Northside Park where your kids can swim for the last time and win some prizes during the different contest. Everyone will receive a goody bag and the event is free. Thursday, you are invited to the Bell Carter Olive Festival Mixer from 6-8 p.m. in their break room. Friday's parade starts at 6 p.m. at Houghton Avenue and continues to Third Street. The bed races will start right after the parade. There will be a chance for kids to run but must have a waiver singed by a parent or guardian. We will have forms at 6th and Solano. Today is the last day to get your recipes for the Olive Cook off to the Chamber. You may email to info@corningcachamber.org, fax to 824-9499, or bring it in to the office at 1110 Solano. The parade entries should be in today as well. For the new event, the Olive Pit Spitting Contest, it is open to all ages from 18 and over, 13 to 18 and children under 13. You can sign up at the Chamber booth in the middle of the park before 2 pm. Tickets for the lap top computer are available at Rabobank, DM-Tech and the Chamber office. They are $1 or 6 for $5. Raffle tickets are also available or you may purchase them at eh Mixer Thursday along with Olive Festival T-shirts. For any questions about the festival please call the Chamber at 824-5550 or check online at www.corningcachamber.org. Click on the Olive Festival logo. There are sponsor books and schedules available at the Chamber office. • Tehama County Museum Jubilee - It's mid-summer and that means that the 32nd Annual Tehama County Museum Jubilee is right around the corner. On Saturday, Sept. 7, the area around the Museum will be abuzz with all kinds of activities. Our theme this year is "Branding Tehama 'Country'...the olde fashioned way," which is intended to create a link between the historic function of branding in the Tehama County cattle industry and the modern "Tehama Country" branding movement going on in the county today. Our mid-summer night's dream is that you will pack up the kids or grandkids and come early to the quiet little city of Tehama by the Sacramento River, join us for breakfast, enjoy the live entertainment, browse the venders in the park, enjoy the art show, watch the fiber arts demos, and study the branding display in the Annex. And, while you're there, shop at Judy's Country Store and maybe even have a family heirloom appraised. The Central Tehama Kiwanis Club will get us started with a "complete and balanced breakfast," the Los Molinos Women's Club will be selling homemade pie ala mode, and Jim and Nancy Fortier will be available with their 1926 Ford "Tin Lizzy" Model-T to take you for a ride. We are also working on getting a vintage truck display lined up, and we will have a Civil War encampment under the trees in the west end of Habert Park, and the re-enactors are always ready to talk about their passion for history. Be sure to visit them. Additional information and the schedule of events are available on our website. Go to tehamacountymuseum.org, and under the "32nd Annual Tehama County Museum Jubilee" heading click on "Jubilee '13 Tidings Newsletter." This year's event looks to be another good one - a day filled with good "olde-time" family fun. We invite everyone to put the Tehama County Museum's Jubilee on their calendar for all day Sept. 7. • This Thursday, Aug, 22, the Corning Patriots will have representatives from the Northern California State Militia to address the public. What does it mean to belong to a militia? Is a militia really necessary? Why did our Founding Fathers include the 2nd amendment in the Constitution? If you would like to get the answers to these questions or are just curious, please attend this meeting. 6 p.m. at the Corning Senior Center 1015 4th Ave. Corning. ——— This column is prepared and submitted by the Corning Chamber of Commerce, corningcachamber.org.
