2A Daily News – Wednesday, August 21, 2013 Community people&events Craft faire Artists and crafters are reserving space now for the September 14 fall craft fair at the Red Bluff Community and Senior Center, 1500 S. Jackson St. The event is co-sponsored by the Red Bluff Community Center Auxiliary and Blues for the Pool. The two non-profit organizations help fund improvements to the center and the McGlynn swimming pool. The air conditioned main auditorium of the center will be divided into 10 x 10 foot booth spaces for vendors to sell their products. In addition to original art and crafts, baked goods, candy and locally grown nuts and honey are expected to be offered. Exhibitors may set up Friday evening or early Saturday. The fair is free to the public, starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14. Details on booth space availability may be obtained by phoning 529-0556. Mud run scheduled The first Nash Ranch Mud Mash will be held Sept. 28 and will benefit the Shasta Library Foundation, with proceeds helping improve the Shasta Public Libraries in Redding, Anderson and Burney. The 5K Mud Run will be held in the fields at the historic Nash Ranch. Race times start at 8:30 a.m. for the first heat. Registration is $35 for a team of five people and $40 per individual. There will be 18 obstacles, mud and a lot of fun. There will also be a two mile free fun walk on the dirt roads throughout Nash Ranch where spectators can view the course and see friends and family members complete the obstacles. "This inaugural race is a combination of fun physical challenges and the very best Mother Nature has to offer," said event organizer Brad Frost. Race applications are available at Fitness Express in Redding or Anderson, Fleet Feet in Redding, or Active.com. The race application enters the participant into drawings for prizes and giveaways. This recipe for Beef and Blue Cheese Stuffed Mushrooms is from www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com. 1/2 pound ground beef 1/4 teaspoon salt 36-40 small button mushrooms 1/3 cup crumbled blue cheese 1/4 cup soft whole wheat bread crumbs 3 tablespoons minced chives 1/2 teaspoon steak seasoning blend Minced fresh chives 1. Preheat oven to 375F. Remove and reserve stems from mushrooms. Season mushroom caps with salt; set aside. Mince stems to yield 1/2 cup; discard remaining stems. 2. Combine ground beef, minced stems, blue cheese, bread crumbs, 3 tablespoons chives and steak seasoning. Spoon beef mixture evenly into mushrooms. 3. Place stuffed mushrooms on rack in broiler pan. Bake in 375F oven 15 to 20 minutes. Sprinkle with additional chives, if desired. Total recipe time: 40 to 50 minutes. Makes 36-40 appetizers. A step back in time The Red Bluff contingent of the Reenactors of the American Civil War will bivouac on the west side of Habert Park in full dress and costume at the 32nd Annual Tehama County Museum Jubilee on Saturday, Sept. 7, in the City of Tehama. The Reenactors camp will bring to life a part of one of the most difficult periods in American history during the daylong event. Rick Barram, the group's education representative, invites anyone with an interest in and a passion for the Civil War to swing by and let the reenactors share their knowledge – regiments, armaments, strategy, clothing, qualifications and requirements of personnel, hardships and living conditions – they can speak to it all. The reenactors in the field will be complemented by the museum's Civil War exhibit created by Pam Britting, TCM director and associate curator, and displayed in the Marty Graffell Annex.
