Saturday, August 28, 2010 – Daily News – 5A Religion Faith&Worship Church news Souther Gospel concert Solid Ground, an exciting group from Sacramento that has a contemporary and traditional Southern Gospel sound will be at Neighborhood Full Gospel Church, Corner of First and South streets in Corning at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. For more information call 824-2323. Taize Worship resumes Ecumenical (Interdenominational) Taizé Worship Services will resume at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church 7- 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5. On the first Sunday of each month, Taizé worship brings together prayer, meditative music and silence in uniting Christians to come together to the cross. The more important elements in creating a medita- tive prayer service involve a reading of the Psalms, a reading of Scripture, simple repetitive songs and a time of silence and prayers. The reading of the Psalms places all believers in a sense of communion together. Reading of the Scripture allows worshippers to discover God’s heart through His word. Silence allows believers to quietly listen for God’s message. Prayer provides an opportunity for praise and thanksgiving, as well as a time to share sor- rows and joys with God. Throughout the service, contemplative songs nour- ish the worshipper. All are welcome to participate at St. Peter’s, 510 Jef- ferson St. on the corner of Jefferson and Elm streets. For more worship service information please call St. Peter’s at 527-5205, send an e-mail to stpeters@sbc- global.net or visit saintpetersepiscopal.org. More information about Taizé is available at www.taize.fr. Genisis Generation radio to debut Editor’s note: This is the second in a three part series on the Genesis Generation – the generation that begins with those born in 1984 and after. I have written in this space before about the amazing Elijah season God launched on the first day of 2008. It is well known that He has produced and documented more miracles and interventions – and more decisions for Jesus – in the last fifty years worldwide than in all previous history combined. In the past couple of years the Lord has put this process on steroids. It has been my privilege to pray out a terminal cancer at a school play and to watch God heal another cancer when the subject person was not even present – or willing to be – through the faith of his wife and those gathered for prayer. In the region we have watched God break the rain drought and move the recal- citrant heart of a federal judge to permit water to flow again in the Sacramento Delta. I have led people to the Lord at a book signing, a funeral, and at our annual Bible Reading Marathon. This is the greatest season ever to participate in establishing the Kingdom of God on earth. At the same time the Lord has framed this season in the words of Luke 1:17. We are called to go forth in the spirit and power of Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children to prepare a people for righteousness. Going forth in the spirit of Elijah certainly accounts for the miracles; Elijah was the greatest wonder worker in the Bible between Moses and Jesus Himself. It accounts for the decisions as well; Elijah even led reprobate King Ahab to repentance. But the impor- Courtesy photo Ten members of Berendos Parlor, Native Daughters of the Golden West, participate in a funeral ceremony at the graveside service of one of their members, Ella Brown- field of Red Bluff. Brownfield was a lifetime member, recipient of a 50-year pin and served as a Grand President of Past Presidents, for the state organization. She was 102 years old. Native Daughters is a Lineage Society for women who are native to the state of California and love to preserve it's history, lighthouses, missions and historic landmarks. The state-wide organization is founded on veneration of the pioneers and love of God, home and family. Pictured are Ethel Clay, Bonnie Love, D'Lorah Hurton, Ida Knowles, Kathy Sibert, Ellie Frost, Carol Layton, Carol Mieske, Donna Lucas, Delores Van Veghel. tant thing to note here is that the purpose of the signs and wonders is – according to the scripture – to turn the hearts of the father to the children that a people might be prepared for the return of their King. This season is all about fulfill- ing the Great Commission by loving all of the chil- dren as Christ first loved us. It is about completing the mission of John the Baptist – Elijah to come – for the narrative that includes Luke 1:11-17 is the prophecy regarding John’s birth. That mission is the paving of the straight highway in the desert for our God for which Isaiah cried out centuries before the Baptist echoed – and demonstrated with his call for compassion – that cry. When the Baptist calls on his listeners and his disciples to carry the soldier’s pack an extra mile and to give their extra tunics to the poor he is describing the paving of such a road. Into this season comes a new radio broadcast that marks its launch date with the Labor Day Weekend. Called Genesis Genera- tion Radio, the program will be heard on AM 1490, KBLF Red Bluff and AM 1460, KCNR Red- ding, from 6-8 p.m. on Sundays beginning on Sept. 5. It will also be webcast over the KCNR site. It will feature rotating teams of co-hosts with one member a Baby Boomer and the other of the Genesis Gener- ation. The co-hosts will chat about topics that interest them while they model intergenerational honor and respect – turning their hearts to each other and to those who call in. James Wilson GodTalk They will take calls from young people and their parents throughout the broadcast – and talk about what- ever is on the caller’s mind. Although envisioned as a talk show rather than a vehicle for crisis inter- vention, at least one member of each hosting team will have two-plus decades of experience in dealing with personal crises. They will be ready to address the hot button questions, the issues burning hearts on the other end of the line, and the everyday stuff that makes life as fun as it is confusing. They will not be hitting anyone over the head with the Bible, but they will be very can- did about their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as the answer to every question and the source of abundant life at all levels. They will address God’s people – the ones for whom He gave His Son to live and die – with all of God’s love and a healthy dose of His sense of humor. We hope that Genesis Generation Radio will become a family fixture in our region – that is, something families want to hear together. Please join me – along with Bethany Bashor of the band Blame- less Child – for the debut broadcast of Genesis Generation on Sunday of Labor Day Weekend. James Wilson leads PrayNorthState, a regional, state and national ministry of prayer and reconciliation. He is heard weekly on Radio KBLF, AM 1490, at 8 a.m. Saturdays and from 6-8 p.m. Sundays beginning Sept. 5.
