FEBRUARY 2026, VOLUME 37, ISSUE 2
CELEBRATING OUR 36
TH
YEAR
AS THE RETAIL OBSERVER
Elle's View As I See It
F
ebruary always carries a particular energy in our industry, a sense of gathering
momentum, of ideas preparing to meet reality. And this year, that momentum
finds a natural focal point in KBIS 2026.
With more than 600 exhibitors across two major halls and a renewed emphasis on
luxury, global participation, and elevated design, KBIS continues to evolve into more
than a trade show. It is becoming a living reflection of where kitchen and bath and the
businesses behind them are truly headed. From NEXTStage's forward-thinking
conversations on technology, wellness, sustainability, and the whole home, to the
increasingly refined booth experiences and high-end product launches, this year's
show invites us not just to observe trends, but to engage with them.
Yet, beyond the scale and spectacle, what makes KBIS powerful is something
quieter: presence.
In this issue, Steven Morris's article reminds us that leadership, and by extension,
meaningful progress, is not built through perfectly packaged personas or polished
messaging alone. His insight speaks to a deeper truth: people don't follow polish, they
follow attunement. The leaders and brands that move us are not the most compressed
into a "brand," but those whose humanity, curiosity, and responsiveness remain intact.
That idea feels especially relevant as we look toward KBIS. In a world increasingly
defined by image and velocity, KBIS offers a rare opportunity to slow down just enough
to truly encounter one another, across aisles, in conversations, in moments of shared
discovery. The most valuable exchanges often happen not in scripted presentations,
but in the unscripted: a spontaneous discussion in a lounge, a product explained with
genuine pride, a question that reshapes how we think about a familiar problem.
As our industry continues to grow more complex, more global, and more design-
forward, the challenge is not simply to stay visible — but to stay human. To let our work
speak, our curiosity lead, and our complexity remain a strength rather than something
we reduce for convenience.
KBIS 2026 is, in many ways, a celebration of that balance: innovation and connection,
refinement and authenticity, scale and presence.
As we step into February and toward Orlando, may we arrive not just prepared to
see what's new — but ready to truly encounter what's next.
