A SLICE OF PI 2 W ith sports always having been a constant in her life, when Jaci John '13 decided to pursue a degree in broadcast journalism, she hoped it would lead her to a career in sports media. Sure enough, it did. A er prior roles in the industry, Jaci is now headed into her fourth year as the social media manager for USA Gymnas cs, where she manages all social media accounts, covers live compe ons, and amplifies athlete voices. "Whether it's through videos, photos, or text, my goal is to share stories and connect fans with the sports they love!" "Being part of a na onal governing body is such a unique experience because it's not just about winning or losing, we're also working to grow the sport, inspire confidence, and support gymnasts across all disciplines." Jaci strives to be understanding, empathe c, and inten onal in her work—skills she gained from being a part of a sisterhood of women from different backgrounds and beliefs. She has enjoyed several highlights throughout her career. "If you asked me a year ago, I would say nothing could beat winning a Sports Emmy—an accolade I achieved during my me as an associate producer at NFL Films," she shared. "Today, I can say the experience of working at the Olympic Games has taken the top spot when it comes to career highlights. Ge ng to support and promote our gymnasts in Paris, as both the men and women won team medals, is something I'll never forget." A self-proclaimed workaholic, Jaci o en has a cell phone or camera in hand. She spends her weekends cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles, the Indiana Pacers, and the Huskers. As a travel enthusiast, she is grateful for the places her job has taken her. "Of course, there's nothing be er than ending the day with a good cuddle from my sweet Pi e mix, Nash." Jaci loves being a part of a sisterhood that has lasted beyond the four years of college. Gamma Phi Beta had felt like home to her during recruitment. "You could tell they were at ease with each other, every room was filled with laughter, and every conversa on was genuine." In recent years, Jaci has loved "standing alongside my best friends as they get married, suppor ng them as they become moms and cheering them on through life's milestones—even if we're hundreds of miles apart." You can connect with Jaci at jacijohn14@gmail.com. "The best way to sum up Gamma Phi's impact is a quote from fellow Pi Chapter alumna, Dr. Kris Baack '72: 'But more important than the mountains are the people who climb beside you.' Gamma Phi has given me an incredible support system and a family for life; it's the solid founda on you can always rely on." Jaci John '13 on Her Career in Sports Media SHARING STORIES JACI'S FAVORITE GAMMA PHI MEMORIES "Some of my favorite memories are the ones that seemed so mundane at the me: walking to the gas sta on in our pajamas to get Slim Jims and a soda pop, playing the same songs a hundred mes while we crowded in the bathroom to get ready on a Friday night, ge ng to have a semester- long sleepover with your best friends … of course, you can't forget the road trips we took to Nebraska football games in the fall and ski trips over winter break."
