DELTA DELTA 3 IN MEMORIAM ANNUAL ALUMNI MEETING 2025 ANNUAL ALUMNI REPORT T he joint annual meeting of the Property Association and Alumni Chapter, required by our bylaws, will be held via telephone conference and Zoom beginning at 7:00 p.m. EDT on October 19. Agenda topics include officer and director elections (view the full list on our website under the Alumni tab), financial status, plans for the year, and a brief report by Brother Nelson. A meeting report will be prepared and distributed. T he joint annual report of the Delta Delta Alumni Chapter and Delta Delta Property Association of Sigma Nu Fraternity was issued on July 11, 2025. Brother David Lee Cotterill, ΔΔ739 died on December 7, 2024, after a brief, courageous battle with metastatic brain cancer. David was born on May 7, 1937. In 1960, he graduated from Penn State with an industrial psychology degree, after serving as president of our chapter. In 1992, Sigma Nu named David the National Businessman of the Year. In 1998, Penn State named him an Alumni Fellow, an honor bestowed upon only 20 alumni per year. While attending a fraternity-sorority mixer in 1958, David held the door open for a cute coed, Joan Royer. The result was a 63-year marriage. Brother Kenneth B. Weiss, 94, ΔΔ587 passed away on January 19, 2024. He was the husband of the late Marie DeLong Weiss. Ken was an officer in the Navy during the Korean War, after which he was plant manager at the former Lehigh Structural Steel until retiring. He and Marie were married at the First Presbyterian Church of Allentown where they were members for many years and where he served on the deacon board. Ken was also on the board of directors at the Allentown YMCA and a member of the Rotary Club of Allentown. Ken and Marie enjoyed many visits over the years to Long Beach Island, N.J., with family and friends. As an avid reader, Ken volunteered at the library. He also volunteered at Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County. We were unable to locate obituaries for Brothers Richard H. Dunkelberger, ΔΔ665 and Charles P. Smith, ΔΔ742, but according to our records, Brother Dunkelberger passed away on July 23, 2023, and Brother Smith on August 31, 2024. Brother Randolph "Randy" D. Kocher, ΔΔ875, of Sebastian, Fla., passed away on November 16, 2024, at the age of 78. He was loved and cherished by many people, including his parents, Harold and Elizabeth Kocher of Danielsville, Pa., and his wife, Linda Kocher. Brother Robert Irving "Bob" Teetsell, ΔΔ703, passed away on May 19, 2025. Following graduation from Havertown High School, Bob earned his bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Penn State. He also met the love of his life, Bonnie McCollom Teetsell. They married on July 18, 1959, and went on to enjoy 65 years together. Brother William J. Conn, ΔΔ908, nicknamed "Genghis" by his fraternity brothers, died on February 14, 2025, at age 77. He was the husband of Deborah E. (Throne) Conn. He was a 1965 graduate of William Penn High School, attended Cornell University, earned his associate's degree from York College of Pennsylvania, and his bachelor's degree from Penn State University. He worked professionally in planning and Municipal Administration, serving on the York County Planning Commission, and as Manager for Spring Garden Township and Jackson Township. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Planning Association. He was a former member of the York City Historic Architecture Review Board, Historic York Inc., and Conewago Canoe Club. He served as president of Central PA Region Porsche Club of America and as an advisor to the York County Rail Trail Authority. Brother Fred Clayton Thompson, ΔΔ582, of State College, passed away on January 15, 2025. In June 1952, Fred married his beloved wife, M. Joanne Bender, whom he met at a dance. They celebrated 64 years of marriage before Joanne passed away on December 8, 2016. He graduated from Penn State in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (BSEE) and in 1958 with a master's in electrical engineering degree (MSEE). He was elected to Eta Kappa Nu, the Electrical Engineering Honor Society, which is recognized around the globe as the one honor society that represents the highest values of the profession. He was also elected to Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, which is well-known among industry leaders and serves to mark exceptional academic and personal accomplishments. Fred stayed active with Penn State University, College of Engineering, by serving on the Alumni Council and Industrial and Professional Advisory Committee (IPAC). In 1986, he received the Outstanding Engineering Alumni Award. He served as a member of the Mount Nittany Society and president of the Penn State Engineering Alumni Society. Fred established a Graduate Fellowship for the electrical engineering department and served as a student mentor and graduate seminar instructor. Brother Gardner "Jum" Phelps Horst, ΔΔ649, of Lebanon, Ohio, passed away on June 4, 2024. Born on September 2, 1933, Jum was a graduate of Penn State University and served in the United States Navy. Jum was an architectural engineer with a passion for building some of the tallest concrete buildings in the U.S. and was the project superintendent over the construction of what was originally the Cincinnati Bell Tower, the Houston Commerce Tower, the Columbia Center in Seattle, and the Waldorf Grand Wailea Resort in Maui. Jum's greatest legacy is the relationship he had with people, including the reunion with his high school sweetheart, Carol, who became the love of his life, raising kind and productive children, having fun with his grandchildren, and mentoring a generation of construction managers.
