F ollowing SigEp at Cal's successful spring 2025 semester, we are taking advantage of SigEp leadership development this summer and laying the groundwork for a productive fall. From building brotherhood to refining recruitment, the chapter is making major strides on multiple fronts. RECENT EVENTS The chapter hosted a successful BYOB social event that brought members and guests together in a safe and positive environment. The event was well attended and ran smoothly thanks to strong planning and the chapter's commitment to responsibility and risk management. It was a great example of how SigEp can provide an enjoyable social experience while still prioritizing safety and accountability. Kudos to TJ Martinez '28, vice president of programming, for pulling this off! Equally important was the chapter's recent retreat, which gave brothers a chance to step back from the daily routine and connect with each other and the mission of SigEp. The retreat focused on chapter goals, individual development, and setting clear expectations for the upcoming academic year. By the end of the weekend, brothers left more united, energized, and aligned in their vision for the chapter's growth. Thanks to Johnny Bashawaty '25, then vice president of member development, for planning the retreat before joining our alumni ranks. Lachlan Watts-Tobin '28 is picking up that role for the rest of the term. We wish Johnny and our other founding father graduate, Jack West '25, great success. Don't be strangers, brothers! LEADERSHIP AND GROWTH This summer, Chaplain Landon Gerry '28 attended the Ruck Leadership Academy. He will also join Josh Wong '27, Mauricio Martinez '28, and TJ Martinez at SigEp's Grand Chapter Conclave in Tampa, Florida. Looking ahead, the SigEp at Cal team is working closely with alumni mentors on the Balanced Man Scholarship, which remains the chapter's most effective tool for attracting high-quality new members. The BMS highlights SigEp's commitment to personal development and excellence, and Xavier Cardenas '28, vice president of communications, has started promoting the scholarship and our story on Instagram. Josh Wong, our BMS chairman, is working with the university to get the word out. We've even lined up our speaker for our BMS event. The goal is to bring in a strong group of new members who are ready to live the Balanced Man ideal. The chapter is strategizing for fall recruitment, membership development, and academic support. With only a few months until school begins, SigEp at Cal is positioning itself to grow in numbers while building a stronger, more values-driven chapter. Through smart planning, close mentorship, and a focus on brotherhood, SigEp at Cal is showing what's possible when a chapter comes together with a shared sense of purpose.
