SUMMER 2025
Updates from California Alpha
SigEp members gather for a photo on the final day of their brotherhood retreat.
T
he Alumni and Volunteer Corporation continues to play a vital
role in the success and stability of SigEp at Cal. With a team of
dedicated and engaged mentors, the AVC has worked closely with
undergraduate leaders to support chapter operations and support
long-term growth. As a new chapter, recruitment and retention
remain our key focus.
EFFECTIVE CHAPTER COMMUNICATION
At recent AVC meetings, the focus has been on strengthening
core chapter programs. Mentors have provided guidance on key
areas such as communications, the Balanced Man Scholarship,
and fall recruitment.
These discussions have helped the undergraduate executive board
refine strategies, align their goals with SigEp's values, and take
advantage of the connections and experience that alumni bring to
the table. These initiatives all support the recruitment aspect of
chapter operations.
DEVELOPING BALANCED MEN
To support retention, another area of particular emphasis has been
the Balanced Man
Program. The AVC has
worked with the chapter
to identify an impressive
slate of facilitators on
topics of the chapter's
choosing for this
fall's development
sessions, ensuring
that new members will
receive a high-quality
experience from the
very beginning. These
sessions are designed to
help members grow as
students, professionals,
and leaders—further
reinforcing SigEp's
mission to build
balanced men.
The AVC has also helped the chapter pull together a draft calendar
and budget for the upcoming year.
GRAND CHAPTER CONCLAVE
Finally, several alumni supporting the chapter will be joining
the undergraduate delegation at the Grand Chapter Conclave in
Tampa this July: Mike Green '62, Steve Young, Kansas Gamma
'80, Chuck Stegman, Colorado Alpha '81, Matthew Bunch '05,
Kellen Utecht, North Dakota Alpha '05, and Elijah Mercer, D.C.
Delta '12.
Thanks to this strong alumni engagement, SigEp at Cal is building
momentum. The relationship between undergraduates and
mentors is one of mutual respect and collaboration, with the
shared goal of creating a sustainable, high-performing chapter
that delivers a strong experience for every member.
Fraternally,
Chuck Stegman, Colorado Alpha '81
