Vance Fraley '56 recently celebrated his 91st birthday in May 2025, and his grandson graduated a few days later with a bachelor's degree in econometrics and quantitative economics. Vance enjoys his morning coffee every weekday, Kiwanis, and his Friday night dinner group. Jim McGreevy '69 has organized seven Illinois Alpha alumni reunions since 1989. Every five years, brothers have gathered for a weekend of Illini football, chapter house tours, front porch barbecues, trivia challenges, and rekindling SigEp bonds. Many alumni have continued the reunion tradition in Naples, Florida, gathering every winter since 2009 to enjoy dinners, shows, sunsets, and even Habitat for Humanity projects. "The friendships we built in that house were more than college connections— they've guided careers, supported families, and created a lifelong brotherhood. I'm grateful every day for the role Sigma Phi Epsilon played in shaping who I am." John Vercellino '75 reflected on his experience visiting the chapter house when it was boarded up and in danger of being sold in 1996. While his son didn't understand the significance of the empty house, John was overwhelmed with emotion and went on to serve the Illinois Alpha AVC for more than 20 years. "I promised to myself that I would do everything I could to give him the opportunity to be a SigEp at U. of I.," he shared. John networked with SigEp alumni young and old for chapter restoration progress, newsletter communications, and sharing a common Fraternity bond. "My son didn't go to the U. of I., and the school where he earned his bachelor's degree didn't have a SigEp chapter. But I now have three grandsons…" ALUMNI UPDATES Vance Fraley '56 celebrates his grandson's graduation. Nic graduated 69 years after Vance! Chapter Eternal W ith a chapter close to 100 years old, we unfortunately see at least one or two of our brothers pass away each year. It's only fitting that Illinois Alpha honor those members. As such, Illinois Alpha AVC donates $100 to the Illinois Alpha Scholarship Fund maintained by the SigEp Educational Foundation for each brother who passes away throughout the year. The earnings from this account will be used to provide scholarships to undergraduate members of the chapter. Sadly, we must report the passing of the following Illinois Alpha brothers: John E. Corcoran '49 Robert Runyon '56 Thomas Cappelin '57 John Early '68 Kelly W. Grant '75 Milton C. Kruger '75 Robert M. Perchak '76 Todd K. Walker '77 Tom Wemlinger '78 Gary J.
