UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS URBANA-CHAMPAIGN SUMMER 2025 Updates from Illinois Alpha O n March 8, 2025, Illinois Alpha once again hosted its Balanced Leader Scholarship reception at the Campus Instructional Facility at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. The afternoon brought together scholarship finalists, friends, volunteers, and alumni to celebrate leadership, academic excellence, and the promising future of the chapter. A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Balanced Leader Scholarships—awards recognizing students who exemplify Sigma Phi Epsilon's core values of leadership, personal development, and balance. This year's keynote address was delivered by Billy Maddalon, North Carolina State '90, former Grand President of Sigma Phi Epsilon and a longtime friend of Illinois Alpha. A dedicated leader and changemaker, Maddalon spoke about his experience as a therapeutic foster parent, his lifelong commitment to SigEp, and the transformative power of values-based leadership and authentic connection. Earlier that day, he joined undergraduate leaders in strategic planning discussions, offering valuable guidance as the chapter continues to grow and redefine excellence on campus. The reception reinforced the enduring significance of the Balanced Leader Scholarship—not only as a celebration of individual potential but also as a cornerstone of SigEp's recruitment and leadership development efforts at Illinois. Following the program, a post-event reception was hosted by the Alumni Volunteer Corporation in partnership with the undergraduate chapter, offering attendees an opportunity to connect, reflect, and celebrate the chapter's continued progress. With momentum building and a clear vision ahead, Illinois Alpha remains steadfast in its mission to develop principled leaders for years to come. ILLINOIS ALPHA RETURNS HOME Illinois Alpha is proud to announce its return to the historic chapter house at 1105 S. Fourth Street for the 2025-26 academic year. Originally completed in 1925, this iconic home has long stood as a cornerstone of the Illinois Alpha experience for generations of SigEps. The chapter's return comes at a particularly meaningful moment, the 100th anniversary of the house's completion. Following several years of growth and momentum, Illinois Alpha is thrilled to reclaim its historic address. This return marks a major milestone in the chapter's ongoing journey—restoring not just a physical space but also a proud tradition behind the red door.
