BURTON LEE GERBER '55
July 19, 1933–January 2, 2025
B
urt was one of Gamma Psi Beta's most prominent alumni. Not only did Brother Gerber
maintain good contacts with all generations of Gamma Psi Betas, but he was also a
frequent visitor at the chapter house.
Burt was born in Chicago, grew up in Ohio, and earned his B.A. in international relations
from MSU in 1955. He married Rosalie Prokarym. After graduating MSU, he served secretly
with the CIA in countries such as Iran and the Soviet Union. He was CIA station chief in
Moscow in the 1980s.
Keith Loch '86 comments: "I remember meeting Burt in 1987, when I was on a path to
join the Peace Corps. Alumni suggested I talk to Burton Gerber, who was at the Gamma Psi
35th anniversary. I remember the interesting conversation as Burt described how he worked
for the 'U.S. State Department' in Iran and the Soviet Union. He complimented me on my
pursuit of service to the United States."
