Each member led a balanced life with both academic priorities and career aspirations, and Justin strived to achieve the same balance when preparing for his law career. CULTIVATING NEW CONNECTIONS "It felt like a rewarding community to join," he said. Justin and fellow SigEps bonded hanging out in the backyard of the house, playing pool, and visiting different chapters while pledging. His experiences as vice president of programming and chaplain demonstrated the importance of goal- oriented leadership, making sure brothers worked as a team to accomplish shared objectives. Justin has maintained his Penn Delta connections since college through social media and frequent gatherings. "They're still part of my main social network." LAW CAREER EXPERIENCES Coming from a family of law enforcement and lawyers, Justin felt compelled to follow a similar career path. His Sigma Phi Epsilon leadership roles gave him a chance to contribute to a community that meant something to him, and Justin saw becoming an attorney as a way to give back to his local community. "Law is a field in which you have a real ability to have a tangible effect on someone's life for the better," he said. "I'm a Navy judge advocate—and have spent most of my career working in criminal litigation. I've spent most of my time in the Navy serving as a defense counsel, though recently I have been serving as a prosecutor for special victims cases." Justin appreciates the opportunity to serve people who have defended our constitutional rights during their time of need. He encourages today's SigEp undergraduates to utilize the alumni network if they are interested in a law career, and he urges them to say yes to whatever promising opportunities may come their way. In his personal life, Justin and his fiancée, Abby, enjoy exploring the Washington, D.C., area with their golden retriever, Murphy. He spends much of his free time running or fishing. You can connect with Justin at justin.e.bass3@gmail.com. Finding His Place at Penn Justin Bass '12 on SigEp Memories, Criminal Litigation It's incredibly rewarding to defend the constitutional rights of people who have volunteered to defend our constitutional rights.
