TheSigEpTigerHeart President's Corner AVC Remembering B-Ball: We recently said goodbye to the beloved Oliver Richards III '68, shown here with our chapter's widely acclaimed Beach Boys cover band, including Don Bradshaw '64, Jerry Caesar '69, and Steve Richards '65. The ritual reminds us that "Life is transitory, and may be abruptly ended at any time." Also departing us in the recent past are John Paul Wengler '62, Garland Tschudin '71, and Jon Gibbs '85. UPDATES AND INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES MissouriAlpha • 2 • A hearty welcome to Brian Justice '81, who joins our editorial staff. A highly successful freelance writer by trade, "Vinnie" will be cleaning up some of our historically crappy writing and adding some creative flair once he's fully on board for the fall 2025 issue. Our AVC annual meeting and elections will be held in September. If you'd like to be an officer or a board member, or just want to be more involved, drop me an email! Importantly, we've just completed a study to determine that we're not yet ready to embark on a capital campaign to raise money for the chapter. However, we also learned that our database of alumni contact info needs much work. Please see the insert in this issue and help us find lost brothers so that we can keep every one of you informed and engaged. CALL FOR PARTY PICS: A future feature will include a few party pics from those days when we didn't have cameras in our pockets. Email me a high-quality scan and a caption, and you may be published (all royalties going to the chapter). Finally, I'll keep writing it because it's true: MO Alpha is the best Greek organization at MU and arguably the best SigEp chapter in the nation. It's an honor to serve with so many dedicated undergraduates, alumni, headquarters staff, and friends who toil to keep our chapter flying. I thank you all. Fraternally, Adam Baer '85 AVC President abaer@hme.com W e've received questions about chapter finances from many of you and offer the following high-level overview of our financial health and cash flow. Please reach out to markschordock@ gmail.com or abaer@hme.com with any questions. ASSETS: $3.4 MILLION Essentially all asset value is the house itself, although low six-figure cash reserves are kept on- hand for major maintenance items and emergencies. LONG-TERM DEBT: $1.5 MILLION Mortgage balance remaining from the 2006 major remodeling project. Interest rate is 3.5%. REGULAR REVENUE: $600,000/YEAR Room and board plus out-of-house fees, which cover essentially all utilities, taxes, minor maintenance, mortgage interest, and food service. Room and board are set to roughly equal comparable dorm room rates, currently $5,880/semester. ALUMNI DONATIONS: VARIES Major projects occur regularly (over $100,000 the past two years for two AC units, kitchen floor and oven replacement, and masonry rework). Fundraisers, tailgate parties, and individual donations help to support such projects. AVC Financial Overview Steve Pfaff '85 and Lance Sago '82 muscle up to replace our well-worn gas range and keep our costs to a still- whopping $10,000. Kudos to collegians Isaac Knapp '27 and Josh Galler '27 for helping out over their spring break.
