H H H H sigma XI CHAPTER OF SIGMA KAPPA H UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS Spring 2025 L ast summer, the corporation board received bids to replace the portico roof above the front porch. We postponed that project after learning many windows on the south second floor needed carpentry or replacement and it was time to replace all mattresses in the chapter house. Since then, carpentry was completed, the windows were ordered, and all rooms have new mattresses. During the school year, the board also purchased a commercial 20-quart mixer and installed LED light fixtures throughout the living room, library, and bathrooms. We still have many projects planned for this summer: • The delayed portico roof replacement. • The Formica serving counter in the dining room started to deteriorate from the heat/moisture of the steam trays, so we will also be installing a beautiful granite top that will resist discoloration and cracking for many years. • Mill and repave the 10-year-old asphalt parking lot. • We are fortunate to have HVAC equipment that has been working since 1986(!), but we will start replacing the oldest units. Our largest upcoming project involves the sleeping dorm above the kitchen. For many years, we have seen a declining interest in its use, so the board is looking at plans to turn it into a four-person suite. We want to add a walk-in closet and new flooring to separate the sleeping area from the study side, similar to the layout on the third floor. We can use your help with Xi's future planning! The board wants to replace carpets in the second-floor bedrooms and renovate the north second-floor wing. We already have an architect and contractor who will work on the renovation, but we would love to include the perspective of one or two more board members. If you are interested, please reach out to me or any board member.
