Page 2 Beta Rays S ometimes the world seems incredibly small—especially when Fraternity ties are involved. While disembarking from a Viking Cruise in Amsterdam, Dave Kerr '77 and his wife, Kathleen, experienced a reunion with not one, but two fraternity brothers. As they prepared to embark in Amsterdam, Kyle—wife of Jake Allen '77— spotted a Facebook post from Kathleen about the Kerr's Viking cruise which was soon to arrive in Amsterdam. As it turned out, the Kerrs were wrapping up a voyage on the very same ship Jake and Kyle were about to board. Also traveling with Jake was fellow brother Brian Bosma '77 and his wife, Cheryl. The stars aligned, and the three couples met up that afternoon for a long-overdue catch-up session. It had been quite a few years since Jake and Dave and Brian had been together—Dave and Kathleen relocated to the East years ago—but the conversation flowed as if no time had passed. It was a chance encounter made possible by a timely social media post, a shared history, and the enduring bond of brotherhood. Voss '65 "Camaraderie, cold air dorms, dances, Big Brother, kitchen duty, Little Sister, house meetings, and going to church." –Randall P. Hahn '67 "Beta gave me a sense of belonging. It would have been easy to retreat in an overwhelming situation like Purdue." –Dennis J. Peters '71 "Sunday evening meals." –Dale L. Baldauf '73 "Steak night, raiding the kitchen, and always having a brother to lend an ear." –Robert E. Feagley '77 "Where strangers become brothers." –Randall K. Broady '78 "Purdue football games and free student tickets. We filled the stadium, and the 1979-84 teams were good. Elisabeth, our cook, and the band going by the house pre-game. Omega, the Moose Room, and Little Sisters." –Ronald K. Schneider '83 A S E R E N D I P I T O U S R E U N I O N Boilers in Amsterdam
